Hello everyone, I hope you’re all staying warm and dry on this miserable wet Saturday?! I’m new to the site and was wondering if anyone can shed light on my question.
I have been diagnosed some 20 years with RA that then got changed to PsA and 4 years ago an MRI scan diagnosed deterioration of the lumbar and cervical discs with C6 and C7 stenosis with osteophyte protruding into the spinal canal.
The later hadn’t been dealt with formally but I’m on lots of meds including biologics, high does co-codamol .
I’ve recently started a university course and I’m registered as a disabled student. They suggested that I apply for PIP.
The thing is I already have a Blue Badge.
How does this work for the mobility element if I’m deemed to need one anyway?
It’s a bit of a reverse situation, has anyone been in similar.
As usual this whole PIP thing is stressing me and despite giving up work due to my condition a couple of years ago I’m dreading having to account for my condition. 😢
Many thanks
MPP

They don’t ask you if you have a blue badge you apply for that separately if you get mobility but if you get full mobility it can help with the mobility scheme for cars etc.
Your right it is stressful applying for Pip but preparation is the key get all personal statements (Rheumatologist, nurse,gp, physio etc) and evidence together before the telephone call to activate your application because your not given much time. Base it on your worst days don’t use the words sometimes. Citizens advice are good to help with the application. Good luck let’s us know how you get on.
Thanks for your reply J1707, I actually sent a photocopy of my Blue Badge in as proof of disability. I sent as much as I could find to support my application. :))
Have a read on the Benefits and Work website before you apply as it is essential that you understand the qualifying criteria and know how to answer each question to give yourself the best possible chance of success.
