Hi all! I haven’t been on here for months because, well, I’ve not been in pain! I had TKR at the end of January and haven’t looked back. BUT, over the past couple of weeks I’ve had painful, sharp twinges when I put weight on the replaced knee. I’m getting quite stressed and worried, and am reminded of how I felt pre-op. I’ve been amazed at how quickly one forgets pain but how equally fast it can come rushing back.
Any advice welcome 😊

Hi Sjhoney, I get sharp penetrating pains sometimes even 18 months after the TKR. It's mainly when I have overused the joint, long walks several days in a row - too much hopping about when doing aerobics etc. It also tends to give me inflammation in the connective tissue around the knee. After a couple days of rest and gentle exercise us usually calms down a lot.
I hope it's something you can control and not an infection. Get better and stay in touch.
I’m in the clinical investigation unit this morning waiting for a scan as my calf is swollen and sore. I had a bakers cyst about a year ago and altho this feels very similar I thought the op ruled it out?
hi st they keep saying about tkr both knees but i keep putting out of mind question does oa pain go away sorry if it sounds daft I can see what you say by doing to much and then infection will cause probs but when i do physio its game over for days sometimes weeks
Hi Paul, we can't give advice on this forum, but I don't know of any case where OA got better by itself. There is a booklet "Treat Your Own Knees
by Jim Johnson" which I have and use. I'm sure it helped draw out the time before I needed a TKR and definitely helped the recovery time because I had strengthened my muscles . It's a good little book with detailed exercise plans to follow. It all depends how bad you knees are. Good luck.
