Are you taking dome by mouth, do you use a tummy protector. I got put on lasoprazole

I was once in hospital next to a lady who got a stomach ulcer on mtx. Ring you gp or rheumy.

I take a stomach protector (PPI - proton pump inhibitor). Talk to your GP as heartburn is horrid!

Hi Buckybri

I started getting heartburn caused by bloating - I'm on MTX and Folic Acid. I switched three weeks ago to injecting MTX and that has really helped. Am still having a little bloating - I think from the Folic Acid - but the heartburn has gone. I would speak to your Rheumy or your Rheumy nurse about this.

AND DON'T TAKE antiheartburn meds like Omeprazole. It interacts with MTX.

Best wishes Denmum

A PPI interacts with MXT? Not heard that one ... most of us are on one

I was prescribed Omeprazole and in the instruction leaflet it said that it can interfere withe the way the body eliminates MTX from the body. So it is around for longer. And has a significant longer action.

You should have the discussion with your doctors. It may not be the same with other protective meds.

Sounds like I need to re read my leaflet for esomeprazole too although I would be surprised if it was a problem because it is the rheumy who prescribed it along with the lanzoprazole before that.

Definitely worth asking. Hope it goes well. ☺️

I would be asking whether your blood tests are ok if it was me. I found I had the most horrendous heartburn on mtx but it turned out that it was my liver saying no lol. No harm done I might add but had to stop taking it and I was injecting at that time too. I’m currently on prednisone and I also have a hiatus hernia I’ve got away with it for six weeks but the pred has caused gastritis and I can’t tell you how rough I feel atm it’s also set off the hiatus. Quick conversation with GP yesterday and I’m to take lansoprazole 30mg for the next month so yeah I think it’s pretty common to get heartburn or acid indigestion with quite a few R.A. meds not something you have to put up with though. Ring your GP don’t wait until it gets worse and you just want to throw up all day and can’t eat or drink anything. I’m sure they’ll be a solution.
