As Iamanelf says, do make sure you have gastro resist tablets. They will be marked EC (enteric coated), and then loads of water.

I'm not sure which particular tablet causes me problems since I take so many, but I have ended up having to add an extra pill to protect my stomach. This basically prevents the acid reflux that causes heartburn.

Talk to your GP, but generally there are two sorts of things. Firstly the stuff that neutralises the stomach acid like ranitidine (Zantac) and so on, and then the proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) that stop the acid being created in the first place - things like omeprazole, lanzoprazole etc. Both can be brought over the counter, but always best to discuss with GP of course and preferably get on prescription as cheaper.

I found that once I had the acid reflux under control my bloating felt better too.

Fairly radical I know, but I have stopped everything... it wasnโ€™t working and making me horribly ill. I am taking disgusting Chinese herbs, drinking kefir, not eating gluten, dairy, meat or sugar, practising mindfulness, and exercising in a very warm pool. So far the inflammation is staying low, I have not had a flare, and itโ€™s only back in my ankles and one shoulder which is copeable with right now... who knows what the future brings but I had to make some radical changes- Iโ€™m a single parent with 2 kids and was just not coping on meds and didnโ€™t have the time for them to keep messing around with them- wasnโ€™t fair on my poor children. NOT suggesting this is for everyone of course!!

Be sure you that you are taking it mid-meal. It kept heartburn at bay for me for a couple of years but then it came back and I switched meds.

Sulphasalazine has been a brilliant drug for many, enabling a normal lifestyle. Unfortunately, it did not suit me at all. Nausea 24/7 and awful heartburn that stopped me sleeping even though I was already on ranitidine and used wedges in bed. I also had bloating which stopped me from wearing my usual clothes. I only took it for three weeks and was told by my lovely rheumy nurse that I probably persevered for too long. Sorry to sound so negative. On the other hand you look amazing and your fur baby is beautiful. Hugs

J

Hi. As many I take a cocktail of meds. Was put on ranitadine, which made no difference, now on lansoprazole which i take as soon as I wake upand at least 15mins before any other oral things. My lovely husband always brings me a piece if toast in bed then I take all other meds. I cant function first thing and this routine seems to help in a morning.

Good luck. FAB pic.
