It is a good drug, and many people find it works practically like magic.

Unlike the traditional drug she was given before, this is a modern type of drug called a biologic which means it is made in a laboratory from cells. It has to be injected. Amgevita is one of the biosimilars to Humira, which a lot of people on here use. I use a slightly different one.

You should be told about it, and/or given a leaflet which you should read. The thing to be aware of it that it can increase the risk of your daughter catching serious infections. No need to panic, but just be aware of that. For example, clean small cuts and scratches and go to the doctor if they look as if they are getting infected.

it's other (generic) name is adalimumab. If you have a look on the NRAS website you should be able to find some information there. try: nras.org.uk/biosimilars

If you want some previous posts on how people have got on with it try putting adalimumab into the search box top right. But remember most people don't post if they are having success!

I would ask about getting the gell to put on in advance of doing the injection so it numbs the area. Won’t be too nice for an 8 year old. Hope it works for her and wish I could be positive but I had bad reaction to Amgevita but everyone is different x

Hi Montaha

My Granddaughter was twelve when she started this treatment. She’s just turned fourteen and has benefitted greatly from it. She has always had a fobia of needles, but has managed it well. It is one of a range of biological drugs that are very affective without the toxicity of their non bio alternatives. Other than shielding, she leads a near normal life, indistinguishable from all her friends. I hope your Daughter has the same outcome, good luck & big love 🙏😷

Hi Montaha

Thank you for your kind words. My granddaughter is diagnosed with Bechets Syndrome, a lifelong immune condition, so unlikely that she will ever discontinue meds. We just hope that she continues to respond as the alternative is not a consideration for us. So far it’s been a wonderful relief. I hope 🤞 your daughter has a similar response 👌😷

Hi,

I have been on Amgevita for about 18 months. Before I took it I struggled to walk. I now have a normal life. I experience aches and pains but nothing like the debilitating pain before. I hope it is the same for your daughter x

❤ Montaha, I hope this new drug works for your daughter. My daughter is 11 too and has hypermobile joints which are sometimes painful. Breaks my heart. Good luck xx
