Hi Paul. So sorry to hear you're suffering like that. It could be the Osteoarthritis in your knees which, if you need knee replacement surgery, may be making you to walk badly/differently and causing the leg pain; referred pain is very common. But I do agree that it sounds as though it could be something else as well. Has your GP done any blood tests recently, in particular your ESR, CRP and RF? If not I would ask for a new set to check if it could be Rheumatoid or some other immune condition.

Meanwhile, rest and recover and don't walk so far for a while. Then you could try and see if some VERY gentle stretches or Pilates help (see the Pilates exercises on the NHS website) but absolutely NO marathons or Joe Wickes workouts for a while!

I hope you get some relief soon.

I recommend you plan out how you are going to handle the appointment with the GP - make some notes as a reminder and don't rely on the GP to remember what tests/investigations you've had already (mine needs to be reminded frequently!) have a list at hand. Ask when the knee surgery might be possible. Ask for new blood tests if no recent ones done. But try not to come across all strong and capable either ... say how much it's affecting you and your life and, especially if it's getting you down, do say so. You may have to start off by sounding assertive and then have a wobble later in the conversation!

Good luck ... and let us know how you get on. There's plenty of support available from this members of this forum.

I think very gently is the way to go.

Be very honest with your GP.

My immediate though was ..... are you taking a statin as mine gave me muscle pains and weakness. I stopped them as couldn’t tell what was statin side effect and what was RA at the time. It improved after statin stopped.

All the best
