I would certainly want answers as to why the consultant thinks this is osteoarthritis! And if you really have OA at your age, why?

If you have present symptoms and signs, keep a good record (including photos) and press the medical team for an earlier appointment.

A good radiologist can tell the difference from the way things show up. Perhaps ask for a copy of the radiologist’s report?

Sadly Osteo can happen at any age.

I know it can happen at any age as I already had it at 29yrs old but isn’t it mainly weight bearing joints (hips/knees) due to wear and tear/overuse. I do have osteo in left hip and left knee and both ankles but elbows I’ve not really heard of before at at younger age 🤷🏻‍♀️ I just don’t really get much info apart from your meds are staying the same see you in 12 months I think I’m just so fed up with it all at the moment x

Not just wear and tear, but can happen for no huge reason in any joint although knees and hips most common. Have you ever damaged your elbows? Or done sports that use both elbows?

I think osteo can be worse than RA as there’s so little treatment. So sympathy!

I got OA at 37 and RD diagnosed last year. Consultant said both can be viewed differently on scans and knees I believe are predominately OA. So does not mean you don’t have RD but as someone has suggested get written report.

I do have RA diagnosed 8 years ago but recently my pain is consuming me and I get no relief, I feel like my entire body is like a rusty tin, I’m just so fed up and this constant crappy weather so I can’t even get out for a walk after work, I have requested all my medical notes x

I was just informed by my new rheumy that my swollen, deformed third (tip of finger) joints were OA. I’d always assumed it was RA because my hands are the worst affected—thumbs and middle joints too. She also said my neck pain is probably OA, but I generally feel it during flares. Does anyone else experience neck or jaw RA?

I’ve never had anything in my neck or jaw it’s just so frustrating 🥺

Hiya Jill. Do you have a nurses appointment before you see your Rheumy? If so I'd ask what they make of it. As has been said it might be worth asking if you can see the Radiologists report.

I take it you've moved on from Dr J? Can is ask who you see now, if you don't mind?
