Hi all, hope you're all well this wet and stormy day.
I saw my consultant on Friday and after agreeing the next steps for meds I was given a depo injection in the bottom. Ever since I've had a really painful hip joint (never had a problem before). I'm at the stage today that I can hardly walk and had to abandon a shopping trip as I couldn't drive.
Anyone ever had this type of reaction to a steroid injection?

I haven’t ever had this reaction and I’ve had many there. Have you had the injections there before? It might be just a coincidence and you’ve done something else to aggravate your hip. I’d see your GP and get it checked out if it doesn’t improve.
Like Kitty J I’ve never had a reaction to an I/M steroid injection into the derrière. I too think it’s probably a coincidence and you have done something which has caused the hip problem. It may not have been to the hip at all as for example, a change in walking gait could cause a hip problem. I agree that a visit to the GP is the way forward if the pain persists.
I have had many Depo injections...my Rheumy prefers to give them in my thigh for a holistic effect. They have always worked really well & lasted up to 10/12 weeks.
However last year I was diagnosed with bursitis in my hip & had one in that joint...not only did it not work, but I had a very nasty reaction to it & it didn’t help my hip at all.
I’d call your rheumy nurse & ask her to get advice from your rheumy.
Sorry, it's taken so long to reply but been waiting for call back from Nurse. It wasn't very helpful , basically told me to see my GP.
Anyway, outcome is.........it's gone! Pain and stiffness disappeared overnight after Mtx injection. I'll wait to see if it returns before next week's injection is due.
