I am about to start taking apixaban instead of Warfarin. Has anyone taken CBD oil or turmeric with it to help with the pain of RA? A friend of mine takes apixaban and CBD oil and she thinks it is marvellous. When I read the side effects of CBD they were very scary! So it has put me off.

Please don’t take any Supplements without asking your doctors if it’s safe.

People may take CBD & find it helpful...But their medical condition will be different from yours.

Please talk to your Specialists, the initial prescribers of your meds. It's not advisable to take anything supplementary without their ok, you, we or your friend don't know if it's a good thing to do or not. So many are taking CBD off their own back & I've heard & read of really nasty issues. Not only that it's important your Specialist is aware of all you're taking should you have any unusual or dangerous side effects.

I'm sure that I've read somewhere that Turmeric also acts as a blood thinner, so if it was me I would definitely check.

Best to ask Rheumatology advice line or NRAS helpline. I usually look up drug interactions as well as telling/asking Rheumatology.

Hello, I have taken both Apixaban and warfarin. Apixaban is only allowed for 6 months, I am back on warfarin and it is working well with my RA meds. I haven't tried any oils and wouldn't take any meds without speaking with my Rheumy or GP first. Meds effect everyone differently.

All the best for Christmas.

Thanks to everyone who answered my question about taking apixaban and CBD oil or turmeric. I have spoken to the Nras helpline and they don’t know the answer. Said I should ring the Rheumatologist! I doubt that I will get a reply at this time on a Friday.

I take Riveroxaban and that is the same type of med as Apixaban. I asked about CBD cream which was ok ,because not possible to rub enough in to make an impact. So I used it b----y awful stuff ! I could taste it even though it was rubbed in my Shingles pain. Worked for about 10 minutes then hurt again. a waste of £40.

Our pharmacist says you should not take turmeric with Apixaban as it is also a blood thinner.
