Sadly my left ankle fused years ago without surgical intervention and became inoperable before diagnosis as location of trapped nerves too obscure to risk.
One might be forgiven for believing me drunk when I totter on uneven terrain but I lost the function of the subtalor joint that enables maintenance of one's balance.
I imagine that replacement with a complex mechanical joint will be life-changing for you.
A girl at my grammar school in the '50s broke both wrists landing the high-jump. As a consequence I would not entertain roller-skating or ice-skating as my ankles were unstable from aged 2 and I couldn't risk a fall.
The sports mistress was not at all empathetic to either of us. Can you imagine hearing "I'd recognise these anywhere" at foot inspection when batches of us were lined up face down on our stomachs on long benches to speed up the process. After 'dance' was introduced - barefoot on a wooden parquet floor - I collapsed with cramps and thereafter I was the only one permitted to wear gym-shoes in the gym, much to her disgust!
Sounds like my school Dodo......only when they introduced Greek dancing ...barefoot in ghastly green Toga like garments...90% of us collapsed too......with laughter.
It must have been introduced in the “new” curriculum in the 1950’s!
Sorry i cant help but i wish you all the best with it.I asked on here a while back about it but got no feed back at the time. When it was offered to me i did not know of anyone else having it done so i was a bit wary of it so still walking with painful ankles.
