I have PsA : was on MTX for 8 years, drug and pain free for 1.5yrs, now having a relapse 6 months but determined to stay off the immunosuppressants and ideally become drug free through alternative therapies. But it’s hard going tbh...
So for pain and inflammation am needing to take ibuprofen these past few months...
Are you taking any and if so how much?
Thx

Due to an infection I've been off immunosuppressants for the past 3 weeks. Been taking 250mg of naproxen daily but increase to the occasional 500mg on a bad day. Also need to take 350 - 400mg of tramadol plus 2000mg of paracetamol daily and I'm still still in a fair amount of pain. I really need to take at least 500mg of naproxen daily but I don't want to push my luck with gut issues, which I've had before and don't want again. Would dearly like to stay off immunosuppressants because of infections but not sure I'll be able to hold out as I am. I'll definitely have to go back on them if my RA gets any worse, that's if this current bloody infection ever clears!
Thanks wishbone. That was the worst thing in the end for me- the constant infections on MTX. Hence the reason I’m reluctant to go back on it. Good luck, hope it all settles down for you.
Be very careful with Ibuprofen and all other NSAIDs ( Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs) and follow the instructions on the label diligently. My wife took Ibuprofen for her back pain, and ended up in hospital due to internal hemorrhaging, caused by excessive use of NSAIDs (Two daily for about 4 months to ease her back pain in the morning)
FReedman, thanks. I guess I was feeling concerned about taking it for too long , hence the shout-out. Thx for the words of warning. There is no ‘cure all’ ... definitely feeling like I’m not in Kansas anymore
I take 600 mg. of ibuprofen as needed. Most days I don't need any, but if I need it I don't hesitate to take it. Yes, the NSAIDs can have bad side effects, but chronic pain isn't good for the body either. The past few days I've been dealing with a horrible tooth abscess (perhaps related to methotrexate and leflunomide???) and I've been rotating 600 mg. ibuprofen and 500 mg. acetaminophen every three hours. That's way more than I like to take, but for this I had no choice. Tooth pain is excruciating.
Be very careful. I used to take ibuprofen daily for 2 years and ended up with a burst bleeding stomach ulcer and emergency surgery which almost cost me my life. Make sure your tum is well protected.
