Hi. I have rheumatoid arthritis and am currently taking sulfasalaxine and hydroxy chloroquine. I have a sudden pain I my bum cheek and goes all the way down my leg. My husband says it seems like sciatica. Which he takes ibuprofen for. Our disease is a inflammatory disease. If I take ibuprofen will this my arthritis worse. Please I hope someone out there knows. I am currently soaking in a bath. Nothings helping. Feeling quiet agitated. Thanks to any one that has the knowledge. Xx

Hi Treza. Your pain certainly sounds like sciatica but it's probably a good idea to get your GP to have a look at it and maybe prescribe a suitable painkiller. Ibuprofen is great for pain and inflammation but not so good if you have asthma. My dad was a physio and always advised that a hand towel rolled up and pinned around your waist at night to give your back a little extra support may ease things a little and make things more comfy. Wishing you better

I asked my RA Dr at my last visit about Ibuprofen and she said no, just take Tylenol. Don't know if that was just her preference or if there was a reason?

I am also on those meds plus Biologics and I use ibuprofen for pain relief and had no problems. I've previously run it past my doc and consultant & they were fine with it. I try and not use it very often if I can help it though. I also use ice packs when whatever bit of my body is particularly bad - feet, hands etc they also help. There are loads of online exercises for sciatica, maybe try googling for a bit of relief from that until you can get checked out properly.. :)

I'M GOING TO WRITE THIS IN CAPITALS/SHOUTING, AS THIS SITE IS A MUST FOR YOU ALL TO BOOKMARK!!! LINK IS UNDER HERE:

drugs.com/drug_interactions...

Ok I'll stop shouting now. It has a drugs interaction section so you can cross any drug or indeed drugs plural against each other. It alerts if there is a moderate or high risk mixing meds. Also has a fantastic database for most drugs side effects, and overview and user reviews,. Please check it out, it's brilliant!

Thanks I checked it out is a great website. Cheers

Hi ibuprofen can cause stomach problems. I would recommend naproxen, they are stronger & safer. See your G.P For professional & good advice. Every person is different so what works for me or somebody else might not be suitable for you. All the best. Sam.
