Mobility scooter dead-end......

For anyone who remembers - I've had to accept that I can't get the council's rules of no scooters allowed in flats (sheltered housing) overturned. Everyone who could possibly help has drawn a blank. Seemingly Health & Safety rules trump everything.

Even my solicitor who I mentioned it to (when seeing her for something else) didn't think I had much chance of proving that they are discriminating against me.

I've more or less come to terms with it, for now anyway. Am just about managing, though feet very sore at the moment.

It may be that I'd be better to move again to a more suitable place, but reaching that stage will take time. And money. And energy. The very thought horrifies me!

Just thought I'd update you all.

😞so sad anyone would think you enjoy being immobile . Compassion and empathy is rare these days

Even if I can prove its a medical necessity, and not some sort of toy or ego booster, seemingly Health&Safety can do what they like. But from all my research, I know that every council has different policies. No consistency, it's infuriating!

Your housing council should be ashamed of themselves.xxx

A result of inexperienced and often poorly trained people undertaking jobs they have no insight of. I'm sorry to hear of your situation.

My parents live in a sheltered flat, the housing association stopped scooter's being in the building a few years ago, they have to be parked in a metal she'd outside the main door now. It was due to a battery blowing up on one somewhere. Sorry this doesn't help you but I think it's fairly standard policy everywhere now 😕

I suppose so. My own fault for not turning down the flat as unsuitable.

Your council housing depart should be ashamed of themselves. We all understand the need for health and safety regulations but, surely, an awareness of the needs of those less able is of primary importance? Another move may be needed when you can get your courage and resources together. Huge hugs

Thanks Gnarli, I agree but they're not going to make a special exception just for me. Otherwise they'd have to do it for everyone with a scooter. It's really crazy that I was able to get to my scooter far easier when I wasn't in so called supported housing! As far as I can grasp, if I go back to just being in an ordinary council house, not "sheltered" then I could do what I like with scooter!! Doesn't pay to be disabled in Perth & Kinross, obviously.

But thanks for your kind thoughts.
