Just wondered if anyone had any info or views on the infection risk of using steam rooms? Sat in one the other day and wondered about cough germs in the steam and all that shredded skin!

Steam rooms a risk?
I don't, but interested in your post as I spend a lot of time at the spa and hopefully I'm going to begin biologics soon. I spend a lot of time in a large outdoor heated spa and have wondered many a time about infections, but it doesn't stop me going !
This is interesting as I use an indoor steam room at a local swimming pool twice weekly and have done for years. I haven't given much thought to potential infections to be really honest and so far so good. I think one could pick up an infection in any public place It's sensible to be cautious of course! Maybe go early mornings or a time less busy if you can. Xx
Most commercial places including gyms and clubs have pretty strict hygiene standards. The baths I went to in France last year were tested 3 times a day and if any trace of bacteria in the water they were closed instantly.
So the risk is your fellow humans. Don't hug and kiss them, if they are coughing ask them to use a hanky, and wash your hands.
I use the hotel pool/steam room most weekemds and luckily I go at a time it isn't busy so it's just me and my hub. I was told by a nurse that stream rooms "amplify germs tenfold" ... so if someone coughs and sneezes in there and obviously has an infection .. get out! That's that same for anywhere though but the heat makes it easier to catch anything and it is after all a small confined space. I love to go and hopefully won't encounter any germs from there. Yes they are checked and cleaned regularly .. there is usually a notice of when they have done so outside in the corridor. x
