I’ve not had a shoulder replacement but have had both hips and both knees replaced. They did both knees together at the same time and I was in agony for a good couple of months. Physio was also absolute agony and required total commitment but without that, I don’t think I would’ve got as much movement/ mobility back?
Speak to your doctor and definitely get a referral to physio- I can’t over state the difference it makes.
Take it easy, rest up and I wish you positive change and the best of luck fir 2019 x
Hello, I’m sorry you’re in so much pain. Are you having any physio? Have you seen a pain management doctor? I had both jaw joints replaced and it was 9 months before I was able to come off strong pain relief. It was a slow recovery.
Hope you hear from someone who has been through similar and get some more relevant advice.
I’m having a hydrotherapy session every week and I had physio for 6 weeks where I saw someone for 10 minutes who would show me exercises to do. I still do them but not seen anyone since then except the hydrotherapy sessions x
Have you had your 6 month check yet? I had my 2nd knee replaced Feb 2018 and I'm still under orthopaedic care because of movement, ligament and pain issues. Physio sessions were the same as yours - actually quiet inadequate without the gym class sessions which they have done away with now - much to the annoyance of the Doctors and orthopaedic staff I might add! I knew there was something not right with my knee, so I wouldn't let it drop. Let's face it, we do know our own bodies! So don't be palmed off if you feel it's not right. I know that it take up to 2 years for my knee replacement to fully healed, but I also knew something was up.
Thank you. I’ve not had 6 month check yet. It will be coming up soon.
Yes physio has not been great to be honest in and out and felt they don’t actually have a great knowledge of my case when I ask questions etc. What has happened regarding your knee have they offered any advice etc
On the 2nd day following my op, something seemed to snap behind my knee while physio was being done and the pain was excruciating. They insisted that there was nothing wrong, but it continued. Eventually a couple of months later they scanned it and found that I had a bakers cyst; then a further scan was done because of continued pain and trouble with the bend, they found the ligament behind the knee was inflamed, swollen and too close to the new knee and was constantly rubbing up against it. So he did a guided steroid injection into it and I’m now patiently waiting to see if it works. I was told it could take 3 months or it might not help at all! I had to rest it for 10 days then start gently excercising it again. Fingers crossed eh! I go back again in a month.
I have a complete reverse shoulder replacement almost 3 years ago. I have no idea what a partial one is but I was back to doing things in 3 to 4 months. I am so sorry this didn’t happen for you. Talk to your ortho surgeon. It doesn’t seem like you should still be having problems. You didn’t say your age but mine was done at 67.
Physio and particularly hydro is essential to get mobility back after replacement surgeries and should be started ASAP.
Hydrotherapy is just the best way to get movement back by far and the most enjoyable. I’ve had 3 hip replacement and just in November had both knees replaced. Much harder recovery and way more painful than hips. The warm hydro water makes it so much easier to move, just got to watch not to over do it. I do hope you get some relief soon and mobility back soon. I was told I needed to get the legs straight within a month else I may not get it back properly. I’m still in pain and it’s a slow recovery really but then I need my ankle replaced too and it’s badly hindering my progress.
My advice is see a physio ASAP and get into hydrotherapy. You need pain relief before sessions too. I’m blessed really as it’s summer here in Oz and I have a pool so I’ve got no excuses not to exercise, except sometimes I’m just so fatigued I don’t want to walk with crutches halfway across our property to the pool lol.
Keep us posted, chase down that warm water and physio. 🤗 and make sure your surgeon and gp know how much you are struggling, something may be amiss with your surgery. Take care
