Rib pain and tenderness.

I had a car accident 4 or 5 years ago and started getting some rib pain months later. I'm still having them but worse and I'm not sure if its related to the accident or not being it's been a while, also very tender to the touch and sharp shooting pains that come and go. Any suggestions or advice would b great.

Hi, personally I would go back to your GP or A&E, if you have put a compo claim in then see whoever you saw first.

I hope all goes well.

Philip.

It could be costochondritis.

I have had this and it was extremely painful. It took a good few months to go.

Hi, I had 3 Chest infections one after another14 months ago. After lots of antibiotics it dispersed but left me with a sharp pain in my right hand side ribs and back. At the time thought it was with all the coughing. It got worse to the point I couldn’t stand or walk for long and after seeing my GP several times to no avail whilst on holiday ended up in A and E and was thought it could be gallstones.and given morphine.

Had Scan and lots of tests to no avail until I was sent to a stomach consultant ! He hit the nail on the head and diagnosed Painful rib syndrome . Apparently a lot of doctors have not heard of this. Was prescribed antidepressants as they help with pain. After 6 weeks I can happily say it has gone.

Sorry for the long message but hope it helps.

Hi I have also been suffering with really painful ribs. The left side is worse. They are so painful Also my left shoulder hurts. Then extreme pain In upper back. Jam taking Co_Codmol effervescent for pain but not working. I have RA and Fibromyalgia. I have never been to pain management do they help . I don't complain about pain but just don't know how much more I can take. I feel at moment that Doctors just don't care just have to get on with it.

My daughter has RA. She has had terrible pain in her ribs, but this was before she was diagnosed with RA. When she was finally diagnosed at the age of 41, all her symptoms made sense finally. I have read that rib pain is a symptom of some forms of RA. She has Anklosing Spondilitis with Schlerosis in her back. She takes Humira and her pain symptoms are well managed. Do you take any meds for RA?
