Rib pain comes and goes

I have been having lots of pain. What seems to me on both side of my ribs the pain shoots to my back. Plz someone help me if u have any idea what this means? Thank you god bless

Best to see your GP as there are conditions where you can get inflammation between your ribs, . I get one called costocondritis, and get anti inflammatory drugs and pain killers. I debated with my Rheumy if it is part of RA , one said it can be, one said RA is only synovial joints affected so no! But the treatment helped anyway!

But the pain could even be from your back so do call docs and hope you feel better soon .

Allanah, I too get costochondritis. I found out from the Nottingham Breast Institute. They do a booklet about breast pain, and costochondritis is mentioned as being the source of some people's pain. Don't quite know what speciality it would come under!!

Personally I would advise you to see your GP, you can get Arthritis in the ribs cage and it can effect breathing as the ribs allow breathing.

Sometimes I get this problem as I have small joint arthritis caused by Psoriasis

I am using that as an example

Sorry that you're suffering with this I've had several episodes of acute pain in my ribcage, that shoots off round my back. My rheumy said that there are small hinge-ing joints in the ribs and these can get inflamed with RA - my GP had never heard of this! The treatment was as with any flare - up the pain relief and if it persisted a steroid jab. But you need to see a doctor to confirm that there isn't another cause. You could phone your rheumy helpline on Monday or if it's too bad to wait til then either call out the on-call doctor service from your gp surgery or go to an NHS Walk In Centre.
