I’m writing this to let people know what’s going on , I had my DLA assessment and it was turned down , I’m in the process of it going to a tribunal so I’ve got more time to fret and worry and it’s not doing my RA any good . I’ve since found out that you can’t claim for another 6 months if it’s denied at the tribunal and when you reach 65 you can’t claim DLA at all. Now I feel I’ve been stitched up as I turn 65 this month and can’t make another claim, the DWP are definatly dragging their heels on this , my doctor and myself can’t understand if I needed it 4yrs ago and things are worse now how come I don’t need it now, ive posted this so as to help others who may go through the same thing . I have now got my MP looking into this to see if she can help

Bless you. Honestly this pip thing is a fiasco. What happens when you turn 65 then!? Does your disability disappear!?
Seriously though.. What does happen after you are 65, what can you claim then..!?. Jo xx

That is a joke as well HH....I applied for my 95 year old aunt,& a young social worker did her assessment.....when I read the report it bore no resemblance to the poor old lady who was 4'10" & could hardly walk...let alone climb into the huge Victorian bath tub she had in her house....but the report said she could.
In the end a retired GP did her assessment & said the whole system is ridiculous. As he said on the whole anyone one in their. 90's living alone would need some sort of physical help.
After a fall she went into hospital.....was eventually warded the AA..but after the waiting time.....she died before she received a penny.
We got it for my FIL after MIL died (they had refused to even ask before as were the generation who didn't want to be beholden to anyone). Completely straightforward, no problems whatsoever and was paid within days. I wish all these things were consistent.
Yes my aunt was the same...I lived 3 hrs away & TBH I needed a rest from driving there at all hours. She refused to go into sheltered accommodation near my cousin who shared looking after her, but didn't drive... ..in the end before she had her fall we paid a neighbour to give her lunch.....which cousin & I cooked & froze...she refused Meals on Wheels...it was not a fun time...but if the care system had been better it would have been less stressful.
From what I see now it depends very much on the area which you live. I used to see people at my reading group who seemed to get a every benefit going...but as AA isn't means tested I think some people who could well afford to pay for their cleaning lady but say
" I paid in for it" & because they know how to use the system, they get AA, whereas a poor person who doesn't know how to go about it misses out.
Unfortunately I can't see things improving any time soon.
Good for you. Let us know how you get on.
That is horrendous make sure you kick your MP up the backside and get him to investigate for you 🤞💐
Hi Tia, if you win it will be backdated and continue till the date they decide.
I got mine a year ago. Okay till 2021 before reassess.
As you say, with RA being progressive, how can you now not need it?
Hang in and endure CAB represent you.
I won my ESA appeals in Feb 2017 and in Nov 2018.
Having lived a few brief years in the USA, was forced to wait two years before eligible to apply for PIP.
It is a very stressful process for all who really need it. Good luck!
Josadler , I haven’t a clue what happens when you hit 65 except that I get my state pension lol ,Thankyou all for your replies I’m hoping by putting it up here it’s at least for warning people what can happen to you I will let you all know the outcome
I was DLA for 20yrs and because I fell into that band of being under 65 by 2013 had to change to PIP this year,I'm 68yrs . Had higher care but lost my mobility car as only scored 10 out 12 points on mobility. Decided to buy the car as not done many miles and was easy to drive.
If you're already on DLA then this changes to PIP, if applying for 1st time after 65yrs think it's then attendence allowance.
Thanks Ajay575 I'm ok at mo just had my 6monthly retuximab infusion so topped up for Christmas 🎄 hopefully no joint ops in 2919 had both knees, both hips ,rt shoulder and 3 knuckles replaced on rt hand . Not much left to replace bionic woman I am now 🤖
Happy Christmas to you as well 🎅
Hi Ajay575 just to let everyone know that I received a letter yesterday telling me I lost my appeal , even with all the help I got they refused it , everyone who helped can see I was entitled ; but the tribunal deemed no, my mp was as useless as a chocolate fire guard, It is just a way of the DWP pinching and scrapeing and giving money to lazy people to idle to work , unlike a lot of us who’ve worked all our lives. And don’t get me started on this government they all want shooting,I have since found I’m not the only one this has happened to on turning 65,Thankyou all for your support and replies
