Any tips on how to sleep better?

I manage to get to sleep until 1.30-2am then I struggle after that and am awake the rest of the night. What do you find helps you sleep better?

I tried everything natural meditation, valerian root etc. nothing... I have same problem...after not sleeping almost 6 months I started took sleeping pills, they give me at least 7 hours sleep and can functioning next day... don’t know what worst not sleeping or pills but I prefer sleep:) not say it’s the best solution but it’s better than not sleeping at all

Tbh I’ve found doctors just don’t want to prescribe sleeping pills. A locum gave me some in October which I took sparingly as I only had 7. If I hadn’t slept for two days I’d take one. Maybe still wake up but managed to get back off.

I’ve made some special gluten free brownies ie space cakes so if I can get hold of some I have a little before bed and find it helps. I just don’t want to get addicted to anything

I find a hot epsom salt bath with essential oils, then when I lay in bed I say a little pray for my family and those struggling with pain, followed with some deep breathing, I honestly sleep like a baby 😴. Keep at it, you shall find something that works for you.

Aww that’s so nice! I use hypnotherapy & meditation to get off to sleep every night. It’s the pain when I move wakes me up and and by 2am I struggle getting back to sleep

Does your doctor prescribe them ok for you? I know you can get private prescriptions online in the UK so that’s an option.

My rheumy said about amitriptyline but my GP said as I am already on gabapentin it works the same way so gave me slow release tramadol which I took last night and still woke up at 1.30.

Think I’ll discuss this with my rheumy at m next appointment as my GP would only increase my gabapentin dose up 100mg 750mx x 3 daily.

I find trying to be as mobile as I can during he day helps and then going to bed before i get too tired, kinda the earlier to bed the more sleep.

Hi. This is a hard one isnt it. I understand. Ive stopped getting anxious ( mm well sometimes) and I tell myself that at least im resting , I take pain relief when I wake, I try not to go on fone but have been known to chat away many an hour to people on here, I listen to music or meditation on head fones. But not one thing helps it seems to vary, but for me the main thing is not being anxious about not sleeping and that is the constant thing that helps. I wish you all the best.

I love hypnotherapy and meditation but I’m struggling getting them to work recently but think it’s just all the worry and pain I’m in

Miss FG,

You are so full of courage and knowledge. What worries do you have. I was abroad recently with my spiritual group and got some sleeping pills. They were a godsend. The ingredient was clonezapam. But I was walking a lot and I must say I was sleeping a lot better.

Had a full day at work today so hip pain has got worse...dreading the night ahead.

I was also given flunarizine for my migraine which helped with sleep for a bit. Gabapentine made me dizzy.

But I will pray for you to get a restful sleep and some relief in whatever pain you are suffering. I look up to you for courage so hang in there.

Regards

Aww thanks for your kind words. unfortunately no sleeping pills for me as my doctors don’t like to give them out.

What I thought were migraines I think is vertigo & headaches caused by my neck pain. So until my mri I’m limited it what will ease and help me.

I’ve tried most things was just hoping someone might have a nice idea I’d missed.

Xxx

A friend suggested brahmi tincture three drops in water from indigo herbs. But ive not tried that. It's an Ayurvedic herb which helps relax the mind.

I have had sleep problems for several years now. I find if I lay in bed for more than about 2-3 hours I hurt. I’ve tried all sorts including amitriptyline, but the best thing for me is to get up, walk about, do a few stretches then go back and have another 2-3 hours. I took early retirement this year (although I’ve gone back on a consultancy basis 2 days a week) so I can stay in bed a bit longer now if I need to.

It’s just a case if finding a compromise, I believe.

I have struggled to sleep properly for months now. Waking every night between 2am and 5am. Sometimes I'll have to get up, move about and read. Other times take some pain killers and eventually nod off. It doesn't help with the fatigue in the afternoons/early evenings either. Not sure what the answer is as I don't want to take sleeping pills. Hope you find something that helps.

Least we know this is a problem for many and we’re not on our own. Anyway I’m just off for a nap 😂

If im having a hard time sleeping i get up for 1/2 - 4/5 minutes and have a cup of camomile tea , i can usually get back to sleep after that - it difficult getting out of a warm bed though !!!

Same here: rubbish sleeper since this & it’s a vicious circle: someone on here said recently you spend all day trying to stay awake & all night trying to sleep 😬 I wake up about every 3 hours if I drop off at all (silly o’clock at mo’) usually about 4 am. Do all the right things, sleep ‘hygiene’ silly expression, exercise, meditation. Used to think it was drugs, MTX woke me up with nausea but benepali great for couple of months & got 7 hours a night but now all started up again. I think it must be something to do with disease itself, sorry absolutely no help to you but interesting to read your replies x

That was me Kerena 😁. Crazy but a fact lol. I've been going for a deep tissue massage by a fantastic therapist once a week. I find it relaxes me so much and brings my body back into balance. This has helped a lot with my sleep problems. Still don't get unbroken sleep but way better than it was.

I have found these sometimes help - Quietude spray from Temple Spa and Sleep Plus pillow spray from This Works. (Google them for reviews)

Also reading, reading, reading and more reading at bedtime , until my eyes are flapping !
