After a year and a half of trialling different DMARDs for my RA with no success, Im now being asked to consider starting either Etanercept or Baricitinib. Ive been reading research and patient forums to help me decide but cant find any info on Baricitinib and weight gain/loss. Just wondered what peoples experiences are? Seems most biologics favour weight gain which I'd prefer to avoid or at least be aware of but not much written on Baricitinib. Any feedback welcome. Thanks

Early days, but my OH has a few spots that pop up here and there, but no side effects after 2 months of Baricitinib. No weight change. Very marked improvement in symptoms since adding B to Mtx and Salfa. Difficult to know when drugs effect everyone differently. All the best.
Been taking baric for approx 4 months. No weight gain but I'm only on 2mg instead of 4mg most people seem to be prescribed. No side effects other than the possibility of it having kick started my tinnitus, which has been practically non-existent since I stopped taking methotrexate a couple of years ago. I'm waiting for an appointment with rheumy to have it investigated.
I think Shalf may have had weight issues with baric. No doubt she will be along shortly to yay or nay it.
Hi. I was on Etanercept for years and it gave me my life back to some degree. Ie no flare ups but obviously didn’t stop the damage already causing issues. I was swapped from that to Benapali and am very disappointed in it. I’m just not so good on it but my Rheumatologist is not sympathetic about it and basically said keep taking it! Etanercept to me was the only drug in nearly 40 yrs of having RA that did any good but of course you need to decide what you think is best for you. I’ve not heard of Baricitinib!
Hi Beelady, I was put on Baricitinib and over 13 weeks ( 12th August to 12 th November 2018, gained 10 kilos , so rang Rheu Helpline to report, ( plus caused an outbreak of shingles + ultrasound proved ineffective for the RA ).
Consultant arranged reassessment first week in New Year.
Baricitinib is classed as one of few Biologic therapy drugs.
Have researched finding some people gain weight on Biologics.
I'm on baracitinib and seem to be putting weight on by the day. No matter how i eat. I think I need to contact rheumy. Although the last nurse did say what would you rather a bigger bum or the pain.... me I said neither as the weight gain is making me depressed.
Hi, yes, each daily Baricitinib 4 mg tablet equated 1lb in weight , the hospital scales proved this, though, not everyone gains weight ( my Rheumy Nurse told me ; before I started taking it , it didn’t make one gain weight) .... Take a look at the above bjchealth.com/connected/tnf web site forum
