PIP Consultation

I have my PIP consultation today and I have mixed concerns.

Looking back at previous post's from 4 and 5 years ago from other's.

I get the impression you are just going through a formality and you will loose your dignity by having an allowance removed which you have been awarded in the past.

Is it realy going to be that bad?

I thought Atos or whoever had been stopped from just writing vunerable people off, or is this not true?

I have RA and that will never change, I have medication for my RA which may change from time to time.

I have a specialist for my RA, so what more do they require from me?

I've had two PIP assessments & both differed. Following my second, my review, I was awarded more than on my previous, I went from enhanced Daily Care & no Mobility to retaining enhanced Daily Care & awarded enhanced Mobility. My needs have changed & I was also give a Blue Badge independent of PIP but the biggest difference I think was I was able to provide medical evidence this time of the problems I have related to the Mobility section. When I first applied for PIP I did have issues with mobility but I'd yet to have them addressed (Rheumy wouldn't examine feet) therefore had no evidence from her or the Podiatrist etc. I'd not applied for my Blue Badge either, I did that a month after receiving my first PIP award. My renewal, done online, was received just prior to my PIP renewal assessment which I informed the assessor of.

So, there's no saying how things will go, but the hope is whoever assesses you will know something about RD & recognise your issues. Just be yourself, be forthcoming about your problems, try not to hide them or downplay them as we tend to do! Be aware you may be watched from the car park & in the waiting room & your assessment starts from when you're called to the assessment room, the distance walked & how you manage it.

You can request a copy of the assessor's report prior to receiving notice of PIP, give the DWP time to receive it so call after a week or so.

All the best & remember, just be yourself.

I had to really lay it on thick. No time for being brave or proud. Pip teams don’t really recognise stoicism so I didn’t underplay anything x

Good luck I was born with Spina Bifida and also have RA was on indefinite DLA and went for PIP assessment and ended up being told i wasn’t ill enough! I was 2 points short on the mobility side. The whole system is a shambles!!! I even put in for a mandatory reconsideration!!! That fell on deaf ears to!!! I provided pages and pages of evidence and some dating back to birth that even the assessor was surprised I had, she seemed very nice the DWP on the other hand are just cruel and don’t care, what annoys me is if I was in my 60s my DLA would stay the same no matter what, but because I don’t fall in to that category we are penalised for our ages and illness under the new guidelines!

hi just say i dropped by 1point and lost car scared of appealing should hearing stories like yours i would all maybe but if you got spina bifida you must get it c mp or cab for help i was a couple days short myself of staying with dla you must get mandatory reconyou they turned that down theirs a court of appeal but others a time limit

I had to go through this and after a farce of an assessment lost my allowance. But if that happens then appeal, appeal, appeal! Apparently 67% of first appeals overturn the result of the assessment and this was the case with me. Twice in fact, when I’ve had to be assessed. If possible go to your PIP interview turn up in a wheelchair looking as haggard and sick as possible, have someone with you and for goodness sake don’t let the so called nurse see you zip up your handbag! This is emphasised at every opportunity in the subsequent report and taken as proof that you’re active, have no mobility problems and what on earth were you doing claiming PIP in the first place!

Not what you're looking for?
