Heal - a new documentary.

I saw the new documentary film Heal last week. I cannot recommend seeing this enough. It’s very important in terms of taking control back of your body, staying positive, the power of the mind and meditation. What makes it so powerful is that the contributors are mostly from western medical backgrounds... scientists, surgeons, doctors, so it has amazing evidence to show how we can help ourselves. Autoimmune disease was talked about a lot. Go see it. X

Did you see it in real life? Can't seem to get it online....but that could just be my incompetence.

iTunes you can buy it or rent it. I saw it in a local cinema but it hasn’t got a big release here. X

Its really good you have found this doc. so inspiring. The only caution I personally have to being proactively seeking wellness, is that the presumption can sometimes be that if you aren't healthy you haven't attended well enough to your mental, physical, emotional and spiritual health. Attending to them all I see as really important, as its the part of the whole that we can influence.

No that’s not the message at all. It’s just about not relying wholly on medication. That we can do so much for ourselves to get to optimum wellness. Have you seen it then?

I hold my hands up here. I have read about it, which isn't the same at all. I have, over the years, read many self help books, including looking at the divide between mind and body, mindfulness, exercise, diet etc and don't criticise those either.I am a very proactive person, so am all for it. I think what i had in my mind when posting was that i was secretly quite smug that my OH and I were fit and healthy , on no meds, and I attributed it to healthy lifestyle as we attended to all aspects of wellbeing. He then got RA. We still attend to all the same things, but I would no longer be so quick to think that whether he does or doesn't find resolution, that its about what he is and isn't doing. (We have just been for a 3 mile walk even though its the day after the night before(Mtx inj,) so we do believe in doing everything we can to help ourselves be healthy. That is always the best way.I haven't explained myself very well and I fear I have annoyed you, and for that I apologise.

No not annoyed at all but I do suggest seeing the film. It’s very science biased and fascinating. Our minds are truly amazing and we actually don’t put them to good enough use.

I too lead a very healthy lifestyle, meditate etc and I still got RA. there are theories to that too. That it’s stress and trauma related. That it could be something that happened years ago and we have only just released it physically. I mean that’s a whole other topic!!!! X

It also has no judgement on people at all. If they are healthy or unhealthy. It’s giving information not lecturing or preaching.

I do understand that point of view, basically because of 8 years of encountering people who say if you did/took x then all would be well. However, I know that while it's unlikely that I'll get complete resolution working out what helps me - physically and mentally - can be a great thing.

In my mind, being proactive about wellness can also include not doing bad things. Which helps me resist the temptation to slouch on the sofa and eat biscuits.

Unfortunately we have such crap bandwidth here I can't stream films at all. So perhaps one for the Christmas list of DVD's.

I watched and it has given me plenty to think about. I started on 2 x RA meds then three, then naproxen. Lanzaprazole for naproxen switched from Mtx to Leflunomide. Then blood pressure tabs now cholesterol. I still feet crap.

I have lost two stone so am now going to try adding some exercise. I have always been very stressed about everything, so I am going to try and do something about that as well.

Hi, Do you think the Leflunomide caused weight loss? I understand it does. Haven't seen this documentary yet, sounds interesting.

Honestly keep doing what you’re doing and add in meditation. It’s worth really seeing what kind suits you. It’s changed my life. When I have a super bad day even taking myself off for 15 minutes and doing breathing exercises, helps. X

No I started losing weight because I felt so ill taking mtx that I did not eat for 3 days most weeks. Then I started healthy eating and I am trying to lose 1lb a week, I still need to lose 40lb to be in the healthy range. I have been on every diet you can think of and I lost about one stone then put it back on along with half a stone more. I think this yoyo dieting along with the fad dieting is part of the reason I became sick, added to the very sedentary lifestyle U was living. I have only been taking Leflunomide for four weeks so can't say if it is helping or not.

Hello Jules, it sounds as if you are much much better than you were a year or so ago. Very happy for you. Taking control, exercise and diet are just as important as taking your medication as prescribed. Couldn't agree more. All the best.

Did you see this in a theatre? From what I can find it was released October 2017. I’ll have to search how to watch at home but do far no luck. I did see the trailer and as you say it is good stuff. I’ll continue searching as it is an all important goal. Thank you.
