Need a new office chair

Good morning,

I have finally worked out why my whole back has been throbbing for a few weeks - my office chair is broken! I noticed it being rather wobbly so asked my husband to have a look and he couldn't believe I have been sitting on it and didn't notice how bad it was! A bolt is broken and it is all welded together so can't be repaired.

Can I please get any reccomendations about a new office chair? My old one is no longer being sold by Staples and it was one of the 'Executive Office Chair' leather types. Have you got any suggestions of comfy office chairs? I can't really go out and test them at the moment so am stuck looking at online ones and reading reviews.

I wonder if chairs are a bit like shoes, and mattresses, and most items of clothing, in that you can't be sure how it will suit you until you try it? So I'd recommend waiting until you can can visit somewhere like Staples and try out chairs for yourself. Sorry - that's probably not what you want to hear....

Yeah I agree. I think there is a perfect chair out there for me, I just have to find it.

Are you employed? If so your employer should do an assessment. If not a fully adjustable chair will do the job; suitably adjusted: hse.gov.uk/pubns/books/hsg5...

Yes, I work for a school. They have bought me a fancy, adjustable chair for when I am at work but don't have one for at home.

They have a duty of care to you when you are working from home. At very least they could ship your work chair to home for the duration. I had a full assessment at home; same as at work and they bought the necessary kit.

Look for a chair that has a high hour rating, in other words how long you can remain sat in one. I have the fabric version if these, Didn't want the leather, but a good chair is Not going to be cheap.

I have 4 discs gone in my sciatic region And have CIDP, this chair helps me a Lot.

I had to replace my chair I use a high back draftsman chair best investment I’ve made, loads of adjustment, back we’ll supported it can tilt, change height, has arms, rail for feet. It’s made a big difference to my back. Need to check if suits your table height. I work at a bench so hubby raised by bench by 3 inches so works perfectly. I found a reconditioned one on eBay for about £120ish delivered, they cost Lots hundreds new.

I totally agree with you. It is very important to have a comfortable chair, especially if you work a lot in front of the computer. I was using a bad office char for years, and after every working day, my back started to pain. Last month I went to the doctor and he said that I have scoliosis, and I immediately understood why my back was hurting. I decided to reorganize my working place and I started to buy new office furniture on a website. I easily found a new ergonomic office chair and a table that has a lot of space for my legs and on the table.

I'm lucky for those suited to the available chair, but I can't work for long when I'm half-sitting on my back and practically leaning backward. And if you sit on such a chair in the correct position, my back remains unsupported. After a day of work, my back hurts. I note that I schedule breaks every 2 hours for 10 minutes of physical exercise - it does not help. A Good abakusdirect.co.uk/sofas/by... comfortable chair Gives you a chance to forget about your body and work mind effectively.
