I love fish. It's the only meat I eat. I am no fish expert but a friend of a friend up here in Scotland is. Apparently, eating oily fish such as salmon, mackerel, tuna and trout can decrease inflammation. He said people with Inflammatory arthritis should try to eat oily fish at least twice per week. Scientists have found a key anti-inflammatory fat in humans is derived from a fatty acid found in fish oil. Eating fish rich in Omega-3 is very healthy for the body and great for weight management too! It's a WIN WIN! 🐟 X

I love fish too. Supposed to be brain food...though in my case...

Had mackerel fir my tea. Don't really eat other animal protein so important to get the old fish in. :-D

Well it's worked for me! Intelligent enough to know what's good for me 😂 p.s - Had mackerel tonight too with spinach and various other leafy veg. Feeling great! Trout tomorrow :)

Love smoked, peppered mackerel with scrambled egg and spinach (no bones) and tuna plus have omega 3 daily supplement. I don’t eat salmon, trout with toasted almonds lovely. My dad used to make sardines on brown toast fingers with cucumber n pepper when we were kids. All good for you x

Trout with almonds mmm. They used to make that in a hotel I worked in years ago. Also trout in oatmeal. There are sooo many ways to cook fish, such a versatile food. Your dad had the right idea! Very wise, creative and healthy! X

I eat a lot of fish. I eat it because I enjoy it, but if it helps my joints in the process then all well and good. There are no proper fishmongers in my area and the supermarkets don't stock a huge variety of fish, you need to travel to the metropolis for that. I don't like fresh mackerel or herring, not big on tuna either, but enjoy other oily fish like salmon,trout, proper kippers and tinned sardines. I don't like shellfish of any type.

That's a shame re fishmongers. I much prefer them to Supermarkets although they do have fresh fish counters nowadays. Oh I love fresh mackerel, have to use tweezers to take the wee bones out before cooking though! Patience required but so worth it! Just thought...... I love fish and swimming and I'm a double Pisces! Well that explains EVERYTHING! 😂

Oh I love them. The bones are good for you too. I also have Osteoporosis, so eat Salmon, Mackerel, Pollock, Sardines (tinned) and all the bones. Don't like Trout though.

If you take a fish oil suppliment make sure it is omega 3 fish oils as that is the best as cod liver oil are bottom feeders and omega 3 is top feeders. All the scientist say at least twice a week as well.xx

Cod liver oil 😖 Nooooo . Loved my granny to the moon and back but THAT on a spoon!! was a sure way to stop me liking fish... She meant well. Yip , stick to Omega-3 , they are top food - LITERALLY! 👍

Unfortunately yes Minty. I used to think I had done something wrong when my granny scooped it in my mouth with a spoon! Didn't realise she was being ' kind' rather than a punishment! 😂

My mum gave me a dollop of MOP every day. It was a malt extract provoded by the Ministry Of Pensions. But sometimes I was given Virol. Cod Live Oil was seperate. Thank goodness for capsules.

That is the crap 🤢 but it was allowed for kids in the 70s yuk I can still remember the taste. Was it orange/brown in colour ???

I love fish too. Salmon and mackerel are good. I have to admit though I take my fish oil in daily capsules as at the moment as I’m trying a plant based diet and I don’t eat enough fish or meat. See how it goes....

OH doesn't eat meat but we do eat a lot of fish...problem is that we also try to eat in an environmentally sensitive way, so local, seasonal produce that has been produced as far as possible without chemicals. So fish is a bit hard when we live 400miles from the sea......

So we eat mackerel and local farmed trout, but wild salmon and tuna only for special occasions when budget allows. Apparently squid and mussels are also considered semi-oily fish and we do eat those too. And carp too counts, which we have in our pond but they are our friends so we won't eat them.

You are lucky in the UK that it's possible to buy farmed salmon that's produced without nasties, and tuna that is rod and pole fished. The french seem not to care about how their food is produced.

I love wild salmon. The colour and taste is quite different from farmed and it doesn't have saturated fats like farmed has albeit not much. Any fish is better than no fish.

That is a long way from the sea. Have you considered re locating? Sea swimming is awesome too. Mackerel, trout and salmon are .... 👍 For calcium, tinned salmon is apparently fab. Haven't tried it though. Also tinned sardines. Hmm , I'm not sure I would like the French cuisine.

Relocating! Took us years to move here....tranquility, space, surrounded by forests (literally), mountains & lakes. No pollution, can see the stars. Great health service in general, fantastic physio and podiatrist. Hate sea swimming in Europe, and we have a 35km lake instead about 5 minutes from our door. And the french are slowly changing their ways re food but since we grow most of our own food it's less of a concern. And it means when we do go to the coast it's wildly exciting...

Oops! Sorry. That sounds lovely where you are. I adore nature in any form so would settle with a life in a forest easily. Great re the lakes and mountains. I must visit France. It's on the to-do list :)

Sounds idyllic. My son would love it for his astrophotography as it would save us an hour or more's drive to reach the light pollution free dark skies of Mid-Wales.

I love tinned red salmon, don't like the pink stuff, and just prefer it to fresh. Perhaps because I was brought up on it as fresh was too expensive and difficult to find back then. I had wild salmon once, but no likee as it tasted too muddy, perhaps because it was caught in an estuary. Not a big fan of fresh sardines either and far prefer tinned, probably for the same reason as above. I used to regularly catch trout with my hands in local streams as a kid. The flesh was more whitish in colour rather than the pinky-red of farmed fish, which is down to the type of food they are fed I believe.

About three miles from me you are allowed to fish for wild salmon and there is plenty for own use

I’m in Scotland and there’s a great fishmonger near our flat in edinburgh. If you’re Evernote here on holiday there’s an award winning seafood shack in Ullapool in the west coast.

Hi Cathie, I'm in Inverness. Been to Ullapool and beyond many times over the years - FISHING near Stac Pollaidh. Can't beat the North West for fish and scenery! Beautiful. If it wasn't for the midgies......

Re Fishmonger Edinburgh, would that happen to be Eddie's seafood market in the Grange? X

If you eat salmon it has to be Wild salmon I was told due to farming methods. 🐟 I eat fish almost everyday as well as taking a good fish oil supplement !
