I’ve had thyroid probs for about 20 yrs first on 25mg and then 50mg for the last yr but then I was diagnosed with RA which has changed my life from an active lady to almost a cripple
Then had the normal yearly thyroid blood test and thyroid med reduced to 25mg I’m convinced this is wrong I was feeling really good on 50mg so I’m sure cutting my dose at this time with RA going on has made the RA worse has anyone else had this experience.I wouldn’t wish this pain on a dog

I'm not surprised you're feeling down with not one but two auto immune diseases to cope with. I reckon everybody gets down from time to time and you have more reasons than most. However, things will get better I'm sure. The early days of RA probably the worst but will slowly and surely improve as the meds are found that suit you and begin to work. If you need to talk, the NRAS helpline is a brilliant option 0800 298 7650 Monday to Friday in office hours or check with your GP about talking therapies. I do hope things improve for you very soon. Hugs
Thank you so much for the phone no,I will give them a call,I guess I’m letting this illness cause me to get depressed which doesn’t help.
My husband and I are both 81,and dont have much energy these days like we did, which causes a few probs.
This RA is a difficult to understand in the way it behaves sometimes it my hands that are worse then other days it’s the knees or shoulders, can’t wait for the meds to kick in my 5th weeks is just coming up.
Just give it time Bradclew..... trust your doctor for now..... and monitor your pain.....its important to trust your doctor but also tell him or her how worried you are and why. I have messed up my recovery over the last few months by not trusting my GP and now i have found out that my kidneys are damaged.
Keep asking questions.... and keep in touch with others here. Get all the information you can about your illnesses. Its hard when your doctor wants to change something I know. Most of the time they are right but we have to be and active part of our treatment as well. I have a thyroid problem as well but i dont know how lowering your thyroid med would affect your RA adversely. I will have to ask my doctor about that too.
I don't think that your Throxine would be changed because of the RA I've been taking Thyroxine for over 30 years same dosage between 125 to 150 mocg a day it varies for me I believe on season so summer more, winter less. Can't say I know why, just seems like that. 50 is not alot and I do know to take more than the blood tests indicate you need is very dangerous and can cause plpitations and put stress on the heart. So my advice is talk to your GP its probably just a co-incidence but you neeed to know. RA should not change you into a cripple either, their are loads of medications and ask about being referred to a consultant RA as it is vital to get proper treatment. I remain very active and so do most people, so do seek proper treatment and qualified medical advice please.
Hi One consultant advised me that thyroid problems can come with RA . I was like you at times in my life I was on 200mg
Over the years it’s gone up and down. Then 2 years ago when I was diagnosed with RA they started bringing them down . I am now down to 75gm . I can only think that RA may effect your levels. It’s a pain as I feel tired all the time and my voice is effected so with tiredness from both illnesses you never know what one it really is . I have not also found a suitable drug for RA as we can’t afford to be sick all the time because of the thyroid tablets .
Good luck we will get there in the end . Stay positive Pam
