Your drugs take up to three months for your drugs to work darling so don't despair yet. When they they get your drugs sorted out you will be able to live a life, different to your old life, but it will be ok darling.xxx

You will start feeling better. Mine took around 6 months, don't give up. To help I had a good few cortisone injections.

I wish you well

My sister, older than me, also developed RD in her sixties. She was cross with me as I had had it for 30 odd years by then and seemed to feel in some obscure way it was my fault! (She's got over that now - I think it was just the anger at developing a long-term and life changing condition!) But she has done better than I have with response to treatment which is so much improved to what it was when I started.

You are in the early days and I know it all seems a mountain to climb. But the partnership between you and your medical team will result in improvements and progress to a better place than you are in currently. Post here as often as you like - you will get lots of support.

But remember when reading the posts that it is mainly people having problems that post - we all tend to forget to say when we are doing well.

Hello, I was diagnosed in 2009 at the age of 60. Like anybody else I went through the tough times at the early stages, until the medication started to do it's job. I can imagine what your thought must be. I am in remission since 2014 and lead and active happy life and I am not alone with this outcome.

If you have some time on your hands go to the NRAS website and type in "Living with RA" into the search field. On the next page there are lot of topics that may be useful to you. If you click on Living with RA, the next screen has box titled "your stories". I have read a few of them over the years and found some of them very inspirational. I wish you all the best and keep in touch.

Hi Huntersmom

If you are in USA your treatment may differ considerably to NRAS bloggers as NRAS is a British organisation, and NHS patients receive rather different care.

However, the standard drug is MTX ie Methotrexate.

I hope you feel better in a few months. Wishing you well.

Remission ? RA is controlable but not cureable !! I've been in remission for nearly 3 years and it makes no difference to my life. I've just had surgery to correct left foot and looking forward to wearing nice shoes agin. In truth RA is a disease I live with and not suffer from; so please try to be optamistic and meds do take a while to work. xx
