Hi, Im going in as a day patient on Monday to have a guided steroid into my left hip. Ive had absolutely no information on this apart from being told to arrive at 7am. I've had hip injections before but not guided and although I'm normally stoic I'm feeling really anxious about it. Can anybody tell me what to expect please as I think I'm only scared as I've not been briefed.

Guided steroid injection into hip
In my experience it is not much different to a normal injection but might take a bit long as using x-ray to get it to right spot. I have also had the same procedure in the spine , it was a bit sore but it didn’t take long. I hope all goes well for you and you get good relief, do let us know how you get on 😀
Thanks for your reply. I'd almost talked myself out of it this morning until my hubby pointed out I can't tie my own shoe on my left foot or put my sock on without an aid. I can't walk on a slope or uphill and struggle on stairs. I just need to stop being daft really x
You will be grand , just think of something nice and it will be over in a minute xx
Hello pauluwoo,
Haven't had this procedure done to me but looked it up out of curiosity. Don't think it sounds very dramatic, so you need not stress. Here is a link that tells you how it is done. No sweat

Ahh thanks I'll check it out. I'm not afraid of pain but I get anxiety if I don't know what to expect x
Don't stress. It's quite easy. I had lots of them before having new hips. It's fairly straight forward. I even had one on my 50th birthday! It really takes the pain away and so worth it.
Try have a nice weekend and relax. Will be thinking of you.
Yes this is so understandable and the medical professionals should always prepare you for invasive procedures. In the US they have understood this very well.In France they ignore this important part of patient care all together, don't know how it is in UK. Good luck and all the best.xSimba
Not for me my shoulder hurt like sh1t when I had a guided injection twice, the second time I had it I bent their bed as I was holding on so tightly
Oh dear Minty, here's hoping it's not like yours. The worst injection I had was a wrist one, it hurt like hell. x
Mine was terrible both times. The second time I told him to stop now or else after bending the bed bars. Have had two again recently and they were a little uncomfortable in the backside but that suits me fine. Both of mine in the shoulder were guided under X-ray, I remember them well 😭
They should put you to sleep. I have had a few of these and was no problem. Much easier than no anesthetic. I found they really help.
Yep I'd rather be knocked out too. Mine was a local 😖
Just had my tea and toast after my jab. I've got to say I'd much rather be knocked out for that, it hurt...a lot. Glad it's over and hopefully it works. Thanks for the advice ladies x
Pleased it’s all over for you 💕💕
So pleased its over for you. Hopefully its all up from here. Take care. 🙂🙂
I just wanted to add that 10 years back I had a guided steroid injection into my pubic bone 😱.
I was taken to theatre where I had a local anaesthetic. There was an X-ray machine in there too. I was laid there awake with my lady bits on show and a room full of different medics. This gets more embarrassing, can you remember the old U.K. advert for plasters, where when the mum put the plaster on the child’s cut she said “ there there there”.
Well my consultant after the injection said “ I love my job , there there there”
the whole room erupted in laughter 😱😱😱😱😱
That's hilarious, embarrassing for you but so funny. x
I’ve had a number of both. They will use an X-ray machine in he procedure room to deliver the steroid to the exact spot.
Are you having any sedation?
I like the sedation, just light enough to let it happen. Either way they will numb you up and as soon as they start the injection you’ll get immediate relief from the numbing in the injection.
You’ll know within a few days if it works.
Good luck! 👍🏻🍀
