I have waited several months for an injection into my hip. Finally happend Wednesday afternoon. Procedure pretty painless and told to rest for a few days. Day 2 night my face felt hot and flushed. Contacted hospital in the morning and they said to see my GP or GP to A&E if I had issues breathing. Spent an hour at GP very thorough my BP was high and he wanted me to have ECG . Thankfully all ok. However this evening my hip pain is starting to return. Does this mean the procedure has failed? Might it start to work in a few days? Feeling so fed up.
Guided steroid injection : I have waited several months... - NRAS
Guided steroid injection

Every time I have a steroid injection I always get a hot red face and a headache normally within the first 48hrs. Unfortunately the last 2 I had I only got 48hrs relief from them and the pain returned but in the past before I have been pain free for weeks after the jab. X
Hi, I always get the steroid flush when I have a injection, red face, feel hot and sometimes palpitations but it all settles down in a couple of days
I’ve had several guided injections and always advised the pain may become worse for a few days..this doesn’t always happen though and with some especially in my shoulder I have had pretty much immediate relief.. You should know within a week if it has worked for you , which I hope it does!
Best Wishes 😊
I had an injection into my spine for sciatica and got a little flushed a few days later but nothing I was worried about. My injection took about 2 weeks to fully kick in, and then wore off after the third week unfortunately.
I think you need to give it a couple of weeks to know if it’s working or not. Sometimes it causes a little increase in pain because the steroid substance can increase pressure on nerves initially before it gets to work. Also they use lidocaine I think when injecting and that’s what makes the pain really feel like it’s gone away, but it wears off after 24hrs so it’s quite normal to feel the pain creep back in as the steroid has only just started to get to work. It was told by my doctor that people who feel instant relief are the few and lucky ones, it’s more common for it to take some time to work.
I’m going for another injection myself next week, this time an epidural and I really hope it hits the spot because like you I’m sooo fed up.
Yes I always get a steroid flush after an injection and often a flare of the pain which can be even worse than before. This is fairly normal. It improves after a couple of days then the steroid begins to work.
Thanks for the responses. I want too worried until I phone the hospital as was advised if I experienced any side effects including flushing. The reaction from the hospital and GP panicked me as they went into emergency mode. Also nobody said anything about pain after the injection. I'm planning a quiet weekend and hope Monday will bring a fresh start 🤞
It’s common to become flushed. I’ve had two steroid injections 8 months apart and it happened both times.
The first injection lasted 6 months and the 2nd seems to have worked. Hopefully no more required.
Best wishes for a successful outcome.

I had one into my spine last year and was told that it could take up to six weeks to feel the full effect.
