Upper respiratory tract infection.

Unfortunately I picked up a nasty cough virus, stopped my metojet and Benapali but it didn't clear. Two weeks later after many hours of sleepless nights coughing I rang my Gp for an appt. none available however over the phone he prescribed keflex, an antibiotic which is apparently ok to take with methotrexate, and 40 msg daily of prednisolone. Both to be taken for 7 days after which if it hasn't cleared ring again for an appt.

in the past I took lower doses of prednisolone long term for RA but had to taper off very slowly. My query is do I just stop the prednisolone after 7 days or is it advisable to taper off the last dose over a few days.

I have recently moved home and not used to having telephone appts, my previous surgery always had some sit and wait time each day for situations like this where I expect to be examined prior to diagnosis and prescribing.

This is the sort of question which the GP should prepare for in his (?) safety-netting. This is not good practice to leave you with unanswered questions of this magnitude. Please contact the GP again to ask what he intended you to do.
