Me too....but I do have a bath that looks like the one in the picture...which is only used when I have overnight guests!

Worth a try for the winter!

Agedcrone I miss my slipper bath so much but I suppose I could put it in my other bathroom the one with the over head shower . .

That is what I'm thinking...I have a walk-in shower in my ensuite,& regular bath with a shower over in the main bathroom.

At under £15 it's worth a try, & Aldi are very good about refunds as long as you have your receipt.

Walk in shower in en suite!! Definitely coming!😂

Aldi good at refunds even with your receipt Kathy, certainly if you've paid by card. Only this morning we had to return two items bought last Thursday, no receipt. The sales assistant printed off card payments made that morning & asked us to identify our purchases along with the last four numbers of the card & was then able to credit the card for the returned items. Just for info if you don't have a receipt.

Thinking about buying the bath rail & step-up stool too.

It looks as if it would be quite good. Simple way of pulling yourself up. Needs to be quite sturdy though. Not that I’m making personal remarks.....just thinking of the strain it would have to take. Is that how it works?

AgedCrone profile image
AgedCrone in reply to Downtime

I think it would be easier to hang on to something high off the rim of the bath as long as long as you have the grip?

Thx for posting AC, I will take a look when in stock. Not sure suitable for my bath though as it's shaped inside. I love a bath. X

I might consider getting one of those if you don't fall out.xxxx

Looks good. if you hands are dodgy get the milkman/window cleaner/friend/family member to do it up tight.

I'm now wondering if modern fibre glass/plastic baths would be strong enough to have something like this screwed to them?

If when I see it & think it's OK I'll ask my plumber what he things before I attach it.

Don't want to end up having to buy a new bath!

Thought you were about to say - "get the milkman/window cleaner etc etc to help you out the bath!!!"😱 Haha

Hi Norisa - Ha ha ha - I first thought you were going to tell AC to have one of those folks standing by... Naughty mind of mine

Thanks :-D

It's not in Aldi until 12th August........I will go in & look at it on 13th & see what the part that fits on the edge of the bath is like....I'm now wondering if modern baths are sturdy enough?

in reply to AgedCrone

Nice of you to check it out and inform us.

I asked my rheumatologist the other day if there was any help I could get with special aids for the bathroom. She was very honest in saying that there would be a very long wait for occi health. Basically I have to sort it myself. Fair enough.

I think OT,s are thin on the ground, & even when you get to see one &. they recommend something it takes forever to get it.......if you ever do.

Like you I buy any gadget that I think will make life easier....I think my best purchase so far has been my little water boiler as my hands are the worst parts affected,

Thanks for sharing this AC. I used to love my bath but ours is quite a deep one and struggled to get out even before RD struck. Flip. I've just realised it's been nearly 5 years since the last one. It could be really useful although maybe not for us as our bath is a weird shape.

I have lived in this house for 12 years & have had a bath twice (hasten to add I do have a walk in shower) .....the second time I took so long to get out I vowed never again!

But if this gadget works I just might take the coal out of the bath!!!

Love a warm bath with Epsom salts. Great for sore joints.

That looks useful, and also that it can be taken off when not needed. I use the ensuite shower, and the main bathroom, where the bath is, is pretty much only used by visitors, so would be good if this could just be attached as and when I fancy a soak. Like you AC, my bath doesn’t see much action! 😜

I hate not being able to have a bath anymore as relaxing in the hot water helps with aches and pains, if only for a short time. The last time I had a bath, I hurt my arm really badly trying to lift myself out of the bath. I had an OH person come a few months ago and all she could offer me was a small stall that went into the bath for a person to sit on but it was pretty much useless as I still found it hard to get in and out of the bath and I couldn't get far enough into the water or lay back and relax. It seems to be all about where you live as someone told me that in Scotland they will fit really good bath aids for you (the kind where you sit on a sort of belt and have a remote control to lift the belt up and down). It seems unfair that some areas can get them and some can't. To be honest, I can't imagine the aid shown above to be of much help, but it is still worth trying.

AgedCrone in reply to

The NHS in Scotland is very different from England. & Wales....they are devolved for NHS funding and all three make different choices as to how to spend their cash allocations. In a lot of areas....Lupus treatment for one ...we in England are much better served.

The most obvious aid to get in & out of a bath is a handle on the wall, but as you have found you need to be able to haul yourself up by one arm.....something most of us aren't able to do.

There is a cushion gizmo that inflates under you in a bath...but even though that would allow you to lie back in the water, it won't solve the main problem of how to GET OUT!

The aid I posted will not help everyone....but I thought one might be able to use both hands....that is why I posted it on this site.

I think if it only helps one person it will have been worth it.

Hi there. I have had a gadget for about 10 years now. It fits across the taps and is really secure. I need it to sit in the bath and to get out. You do have to hold onto a bar which lifts with you so you do need some grip in your hands. I also put a flannel under my feet which stops me from slipping as l am pulling myself up with the bar. Let me know if you need further details and l will look for where l got my last one from when l moved house into a flat with a smaller bath.x

That would be interesting.......are you in UK?

I wasn't too bothered about not having a bath, but after all the posts today ,,,,I'm quite looking forward to having one!

Just type bath tap rail and can be found at Aids 4 You. That one can be easily altered if too wide for the bath. Regards Maureen.

AgedCrone in reply to Liberty43

Thank you, I'll ,have a look!

Thank you for the information. I agree with you that if it only helps one person it is worth putting it on here. I think because I have so many problems that it would be difficult to find anything that I could manage on my own. Since having two falls earlier this year where I ruptured two tendons in each shoulder, I have not been able to rely on my arms to help me do things. My big hobbies that gave me so much pleasure are making cards that I sell for charity, playing the piano and guitar and photography. All of these are now very very difficult to do with my arms like this.

AgedCrone profile image
AgedCrone in reply to

I often think there is a RA Gremlin who knows what we enjoy & picks on something to stop us doing it.

Hopefully something can be done about your tendons & in time you will be able to pick up some of your hobbies.

Have you been offered any treatment....if you haven't ask for a referral to either a surgeon or a physio. As you have found, in some areas the NHS don't offer.....we have to speak up & ask.

Hope you get some help.

AC

in reply to AgedCrone

I am having physio for my shoulders and arms but although I was getting on really well to begin with, I seem to have lost ground since I hurt my shoulder again trying to get out of the bath. I am seeing the physio again next week so will see what he says.

I have seen the orthopedic surgeon about fixing my tendons but it can't be done as my tendons are so weak and thin, that it is 90% certain that they would tear straight away and could left me in a worse state than I am now.

AgedCrone profile image
AgedCrone in reply to

Oh dear how horrid for you...but it's a good sign that you did get some relief before had your second bath incident.

Is there any chance your physio could support an application to OH to get a grant to have a walkin in shower installed......I had that done at my last house & it wasn't too expensive ...as long as you don't mind losing the bath?

in reply to AgedCrone

My husband and son would hate to lose the bath and I wouldn't expect them to do that. I don't think we would get a grant in this town as it has no resources and is known to have run out of any money to help people, but thank you for your suggestion.

I live in Scotland OT got me a bath seat which a control to lift you up and down but could not lie back to ease the joints so ended up a taking it out and getting a walk in shower.I do miss having a long soak in the bath

I had to climb onto the back of a huge lorry last week disguised as a Carnival Float methinks this appliance could have other uses and should be in the car boot.lol x

I run a Memory Cafe in our village so it was 1960's with flags too. My dad owned a haulage company it took me back to being a child out for the day with dad. But his were Bedford TK's which now would look like a Dinky toy. It was a great day and so much fun. I though lets get into this and sing and wave no one will know me as it was in the next village. Only to get "Janet Janet Janet" at high volume as the neighbours and assorted family members turned out to wave the procession on. I'm up for it next year and any uxcuse for the eveing party too. lol xx

ooh thats interesting, didnt spot that in Aldi. I use a suction grab bar on the wall and then place a shower mat in the bath as this helps gives me traction when getting out! On more than one occassion I have had to drain the water and wait to try to get out!!!! :-)
