Letter I had gave a link to online form to explain extenuating circumstances and of course RA is definitely one of those! I seem to remember I had to get a letter from my doctor- the form explained it all - do remember it was not an issue for GP. Obviously been asked lots of times before and there was no charge.

Outcome was I received letter saying that I would be removed from Jury Service list and never be asked again.

I should say I am in Scotland and so rules/procedures may not be the same.

It's not in anyone's interest to have someone on a jury who is too unwell to focus on what's happening. You should have no trouble getting out of this.

I was also called for jury service, my GP gave me a sickline which was accepted by the court.

As others have said elsewhere there probably isn’t an automatic exemption for most conditions. However I was called for jury service twice over 30 years ago - both times I asked to be excused - once because I was 8 months pregnant and once because we were in the middle of building disruption at the school where I worked and I was concerned about the additional anxiety etc caused to my class of 5 year olds if I was absent at that time. On both occasions I was excused.

Just saying!

I’m not sure where you live but in the UNITED STATES if you are a disabled person and like you draw for disability you can be exempt . Or sometimes with a doctors statement saying your not able to attend due to what disables you they exempt you or if they won’t exempt you for those reasons I got called and when the jusdge done his questions that they ask I told him I would never be able to vote guilty and be the one that would cause someone to go to prison cause there is always that little bit of a chance that they could be innocent . I got exempt for that not knowing you could

But good luck cause it is hard to get exempt from jury duty sorry to say that but it is true and I know I wouldn’t want to have to sit in there could go on for weeks sometimes and hope you get to feeling better may god bless you

Just call the number on Jury Service letter...usually they will cancel it, but if not just ask your GP to write a letter .....this happens all the time - don't worry about it

Tell them you can't sit still and would distract the rest of the jury - that usually gets it cancelled Straight Away!

Amy don't stress over this too much. I know when you get the letter for Jury Service it does sound quite daunting , but don't let it affect your health.....people beta dispensation not to serve every day.

If I were you I'd just phone....you can speak to the right person who will tell you exactly what you need too do.

They certainly won't force somebody with health problems like yours to attend court.

Don’t stress over it cause I really think they will exempt you they can’t go against doctor orders I do know that so don’t stress I’m always afraid to say they won’t then them end up not exempting you but I honestly don’t think you have anything to worry about hope you feel better soon

Reply to your jury summons and explain your medical conditions and ask to be excused, otherwise if they do say no, you then have the opportunity to contact to the court nearer the date, and explain your difficulties and ask for a pre-visit to see if you can be accommodated, there are reasonable adjustments that can be made, but people can be excused if they cannot sit for an hour at a time without discomfort, and there travelling difficulties to be taken into account as well, if that would make you ill, it’s no good having an unwell juror...

The court will understand and will excuse you on medical grounds...

I very rarely come in here but I got an email mentioning jury service so I thought I'd reply. I was a jury summoning officer quite a few years ago. Anyone asking to be excused due to ill health, I immediately let them know they didn't have to come. If you are sending back the form asking to be excused, and especially if you have sent evidence, there is no way you will be made to go. Please don't worry and make yourself ill over it.

I went for jury duty in Dallas last year. They give multiple opportunities to say you have an excuse to leave. They do not want you there if you are not 100% prepared to serve the whole time.
