So sorry i understand how you feel. I cant answer your question as i dont know but send you love and hugs. Hope things get better soon. Xx
So sorry for you, you must be thoroughly fed up! I have a low wbc and I think the βnormalβ reading should be at least four. Mine is never above 3 and has been lower than one. I think the fear nowadays is hospital borne infections so I can appreciate they will be have to be strict. Not much help to you though. I would talk to your consultant ASAP. Good luck.
Thanks Barbara for that . I have never been below 1 , did you have to have treatment for that ? I have been lucky and v careful about infections and I know surgery is a big risk but there is a time factor with the surgery and im not guaranteed that wbc will increase, if i can i will push for surgery but probably wont get anywhere. I hope things look up for you πΈ
After a really bad flare my wbc was 0.65! There is no treatment seemingly but I did have weekly blood tests to make sure it was climbing, albeit slowly. Are you in Scotland? I ask because of your use of the word scunnered! I had to have surgery to remove my gall bladder at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary and they were really good about the wbc. I think they knew I had to have the op so they checked my blood right up to the day of the op and I was discharged the same day. Hope all goes well.
Thanks Barbara , im in the north of Ireland! Im hoping that they might check my blood again today as the op slot is still free . Apparently there is a transfusion they can give to increase the wbc but im not sure in what circumstances they give it . I will just have to be patient x
What devastating news for you. I sincerely hope things improve quickly and the op can go ahead. Hugs

oh no! Have they rescheduled or just canceled until you wbc come up?
Ive a new date for middle of May but it wbc and neurophils are still low I would be at risk of a spinal abscess, so no guarantee of surgery βΉοΈβΉοΈβΉοΈ
is there anything they can do to raise those up?
The rheumy is going to phone me for chat. Im also going to get a nutribullet and blitz up some horrible kaley drinks.
I've had trouble with my taste buds since starting the chemo where things taste bitter and someone on a FB group chat told me to try Mberry. It's supposed to fool your taste buds into thinking you are eating something sweet. I'm ordering some on Amazon to see if it helps. They might help you choke down that kale! that's nasty stuff. LOL
Very interesting! I have googled some recipes , a few without kale so i will get my husband to take me shopping tonight. The wbc problem could continue to be an issue, i shyhave taken action before but i hsve been so tired . I hope you find something to add flavour and tempt your tastebuds, you donβt want to loose your appetite xxx
Oh no. It's even more annoying it being cancelled at the last minute, you'll have been organised & ready to go no doubt. Well, they won't do it with your WBC being so low, there's the concern of infection possibly, they'd like it to be anything above 4 I would think to get the go ahead. Haven't you had this problem before?
Did they not say what could be done or just say it was cancelled? If it has been & remains constantly low they may suggest they treat it with a G-CSF (filgrastim) but they may want to see if it rises naturally if it's a blip. Some say you can help by eating specific foods but nothing's proven. If you want to try it won't harm so those rich in folate, some of those are spinach, broccoli, salmon, garlic, ginger, kiwi & citrus fruits plus Omega 3, check online, see what you think. You could ask your GP about folate & vitamin B12. Be extra careful with hygiene whilst it's low. Heck, it's a blinking nuisance you could do without.
I discussed with surgeon the risks and it is not worth it as too serious. Just off phone with rheumy Nurse, she will discuss with consultant to see if can do anything to boost count , did mention C-CSF to her . She has seen bloods and not happy they have been low since August , my baseline has always been low . I am going to eat the right foods and take folic acid , vit c and selenium. I have been very lucky up to now regarding infections as i am very careful about hygiene etc. Im disappointed but I will get sorted eventually. Hope you are keeping good , best wishes xx
