I got a Dyson V6 Absolute stick vac last year and wouldn't be without it. I was looking at a GTech recently for heavier duty but for maintenance vacs and lifting it up and down stairs the V6 is fab.

I have the Gtech and it’s great for whizzing about even with a damaged hand and no movement in wrists!! My only fault with it is that I can’t get in all the corners with it.

Interesting, as I have also been considering buying one as I cannot do the stairs with my heavy Dyson. Is the Gtech good on stairs ( easy and light)? Also, you say can’t get into corners... is that the airram won’t go or is it that your wrists don’t allow you flexibility? I have a destroyed wrist so limited movement. Also, how do you charge it ( whole hoover plugs in or just the battery pack)? Any tips may sway my husband saying “ Yes”!

Hi Denise, I can’t praise it enough for being lightweight and easy to use, but no I can’t get in the corners or use on stairs as it doesn’t have a hose. My husband can get in the corners with it though, I can recommend it! But having said that next time I think I’d buy a lightweight stick one to get in corners etc. I do have a dyson handheld but I find that quite heavy and the charge doesn’t last long , so it’s my normal big dyson for stairs etc but hubby normally does though. Hope this helps 😊

The GTech handheld is good for stairs..not nearly as heavy as the Dyson.

I have the handheld but it’s really too heavy for my now very weak wrists. Also, just after the 2 yr guarantee the battery hardly holds charge at all. It’s £70 (?) for a replacement battery so wondering whether to just buy the airram but really need something for the stairs. We have a lab so hairs an issue too!

I was just comparing handheld GTech with the Dyson.....which I use with two hands with difficulty. I guess the answer is to hike around

testing how heavy each handheld is!

Got flu at moment so cleaning is last thing on my mind!

Ring Gtech anyway Denise. If it's only just out of warranty you may well find they'll still be helpful & send you a replacement, you can only try. My sister in law has my late father in law's AirRam which was over 2 years old at the time. Something went wrong, can't bring to mind what it was just now, but she knew how good they'd been with us so rang them & told them who's it had been & they brought up the details on screen (so knew how old it was), changed the warranty details to hers & sent her the replacement part.

I got a shark far more powerful than a Dyson. I've had 3 Dyson before this shark would never have Dyson again amy

Agree Dysons are too heavy all round & I can't manage the bloomin' filters they have all over the place!

I love my g tech air ram. I have a hand held for stairs but when my hands bad is difficult to use that. The upright is brilliant though!

I've got an animal Bosch it just means its red battery one. I have same problem the Sebo is heavy and althought very powerful it does eat the rugs. The little Bosch is super powerful with long battery life. It goes for 75 minutes before needing a recharge and lives in airing cupboard upstairs. I

PS it has a set of pipes to extend its range and for curtain tops as well as an attachment for mattresses to get dust out. It really works. Has a back strap and easy to empty as well. We tried several in John Lewis and this one did appear to be the most verssatile but was'nt the cheapest.

I wouldn't be without mine, although actually I had to be recently as we had a viewing & had no choice but to use the Dyson ball (which was replaced by a Hoover now 'donated') & paying for it with sore shoulder muscles & back, the reason I stopped using it as the suction may be good but it makes it so hard to push! I have the original AirRam K9 & it picks up dog hairs really well, is so easy to use, it's no weight. I bought the Multi (hand held) too which is as good cleaning-wise but I wish it had a little longer battery life. I use both on the stairs but if I happen to be downstairs doing a proper vacuum round (our living area is upstairs) then the AirRam is just as easy being so light. If you're thinking about the Multi too, amongst others it has a motorised brush attachment which goes right into the stair corners plus the hose & thin attachment for narrow spaces. I bought both direct from Gtech & they were registered, really pleased we did because if you have a problem with a part its replacement carries a new 2 year guarantee. As one was the battery it was worth it as it's an expensive part. They send replacement parts out next day too, initially they thought the fault was the brush head so I now have two of those as they decided it was the battery in the end. I rang them about the sweeping head on a Saturday & it was delivered Sunday.

The latest version is different in a few ways so best to check online, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it if or when the time comes.

Thanks for your comments have decided to order one as I do struggle with my Dyson. I have a sharp upstairs which is good but cannot keep carrying up & down stairs. Gill

I have one and it is so easy to use, so long as you remember to charge it when it needs it so that it is ready for the next use. It's light and steerable, so much easier on the arms for pushing it around, quite light to lift up the stairs, and does a good job of sucking up the fluff and other bits, judging by the amount I always find when I come to empty it. Only downside is that it is not ideal for doing the stairs, but I use a dustpan and brush for mine, and it has no crevice tool - you have to buy the hand held one for doing jobs that need that. But for a general sweep over the carpets it's great. I use it most days, and then every week or two I use the heavy old upright vac to get right up to the edges and in the nooks and crannies. I'd recommend it for those in-between days, and especially when you feel fatigued, as it doesn't sap energy like using a heavy vacuum cleaner does. Go for it, I'd say!

I got it and sent it back as it does not do rugs well so went back to the good old dyson, it’s easy if you have it put up in the wall and can be charged at all time would not be without mine ,

Think it is a matter of choice.

I use a Dyson Cordless more manageable especially for stairs in weight wise and whizzing round.

Found Dyson Compact at times can be heavy for lifting on stairs but still use it around the house.
