What do they do and how painfull is it please? I was told that they might offer it to me as I went to see the rheumy nurse last week but they are still deciding if I should start any medication as my blood test was negative.

Hello

I have had both ankles done. It is not pleasant but not too painful as they mix it with local anesthestic. The really important thing is to rest them completely for 48 hours after to get the best results.

Good Luck.

Becky

Hi Philip. I must admit I have never had injections into the ankles - only into shoulders and backside. Glad to see your blood tests did not show any problems. I see Becky has had it done. Sounds unpleasant but not intolerable. Good luck. LavendarLady xx

one of my fears is that the local anesthestic dosnt seem to work since I have had the Fibro so I think that the sensetivity is the worrying part lol but Ill have to put on a brave face, I did have a steroid injection in my chest bone several years ago and the pain made me almost blackout it was so intense. Oh lol decisions desicions lol

Thank you Lavender Lady, I'm glad too about the blood tests I think, I'm a bit confused though about the positive and negative , it's kind of like do I or dont I have RA although the scan did show quite a lot of damage, the dr who did the scan said it is bone on bone so I'm still waiting lol, I think the waiting game is the longest game ever invented, Did you have a lot of paint in your shoulders? I suppose it hurt in ya backside either way it is all a big ouch.

Hi, I have had knee and both wrists done. It is painful at the time but worth it for the relief it gives, so grit your teeth and go for it. As has been said if you completely rest the joints for 48 hours after the result will be more effective and last longer- so that will mean minimal walking. I was only told about resting joints when i had them done as an inpatient and he did mean completely rest ! Let us know how it goes, take care.

It will give me chance to try out my new wheelchair.an volunteers to push lol

Hi Philip I have had injections in my heels and my knees and wrists. They are painful, no getting around that, but they have always helped me. The big thing is to rest afterwards. I had wrist and knee done on Wednesday and they are both so much better already. Sometimes I don;t realise how bad my joints are until the pain goes!

So long as you are accurate in telling them where the pain is they will get the right spot and it will act sooner. Although I think in some cases they just have a particular spot they put it... not sure. But the one in my wrist (well in was the base of the thumb) was put in right on top of the area where I was having the most pain. It hurst like whatsit, but it is so much better.

Good luck

Julie xx

Hi Philip,

I have had hands, wrists, knees, shoulders, but never ankles or feet, too late for my ankle now damage done, I need surgery now, wonder why I never had them done? Good news not positive for RA eh? The injections were never painful , twingey though, but I think men a little more pain sensitive than us ladies :) All my injections bar one, were done under camera. Ie. injecter watching himself inject on xray machine as he does it, far more effective, suppose depends on where they are going, but a needle in a muscle, by mistake can make matters worse, luckily ankles don't have muscles, as hips and shoulders do!

Take 2 paracetamol in advance if you are worried that might help.

No offence meant re men and pain, but that is apprently true!

my ankles are done in to but this is to try and stop the pains when I walk, or stand lol , I dont think I could pinpoint the spot but it is in my ankles and feet so I dont really know, no offence as you are right about the pain in men or men being pains lol I think it is because we men are much more sensitive. :-))

I have had both ankles injected. It is quite painful but what is a few seconds compared to months of pain and discomfort. I think you should have them done although I have to say that it wasn't successful in my case. I eventually had to go to Wrightington for an inj under x ray into the top of my foot through the instep and then wear a boot for 6 weeks. It was of course very inconvenient but very successful. It sounds horrendous but was no worse than any depo medrone injs. Good luck. I hope they work for you
