Yes, frankly I was never out of the loo the day or two after taking MTX, whether by tablet or injection, making me effectively housebound on those days as I needed to be near a loo all day.The problem never resolved, after 11 months, and having an 'accident' whilst out I stopped taking it and contacted rheumatology ( who had advised that I continue taking it all along).
I haven't noticed to be honest. I will be mindful of it next week and let you know.
Hi Yes SylviaMA I've been on MTX for 15 years I definitely need to loo a day or two after and quickly at times.
Peter.
Hi
Yes I suffered with this while on the tablet form of MTX. Not long after I changed to injections the problem went away, and has not reccured.

It is an unfortunate but listed common side effect of oral MTX. If it continues to disrupt the few days after please do ask if you can have an increase in the days you take folic acid. Or another option, if you already take it 6 days, is to change to injections. Gastrointestinal issues, nausea being another, often reduce or even go completely.
I take 5mg Folic Acid once a week. 20mg MTX weekly. Maybe more folic acid is needed
Definitely something to ask your Rheumy then. GI problems (which includes diarrhoea) are one of the most common & easily remedied side effects of oral MTX so a valid reason to increase the days you take folic acid.
I take the folic acid 7 days a week and am on 20mg methotrexate and also I take hydroxychloroquine x
How many mg of folic acid do you take ?

Hi I have 5mg daily
Thank you for all the replies. I’ll have to look into it further
Yes, like so many others I need the loo frequently and quickly for a number of hours in the morning. Just seem to get it back under control when it's time to take mtx again.
Oral methotrexate was a problem but back to normal with injections 👍😀
Hi SylviaMA - I asked the question of this very forum about taking folic and at what no of days etc - and so many answers were different. I know pple who take it 6 days out of 7 - the 7th being the MTX day. People who only take it 2 days or 3 etc. etc. etc. We should never take folic on MTX day, but with the help of your Dr, you should hopefully be able to increase your folic to reduce your side effects, and it does so by helping the body get rid of the MTX out of your system, which is important b/c it is a toxic little chemotherapy drug. However, it is by all accounts widely used, very effective and not harmful if used in the correct way. (This I have come to learn via the lovely people on this forum) I am still doing my research as here in Australia as we dont appear to have 'rheumy' nurses and RA centres like they do in the UK. However, and also - its probably quite important to get your Folic fine tuned for your exact needs. Hopefully your Dr will get this underway for you. Kind regards from Vic Aust.
Yes - I m in and out of the loo. I never stray too far from the house the day I take my tabs plus the next day lol!
