Any thoughts on the BBC news story that every person receiving PIP will have their claim reviewed?? It's good that the DWP have been forced to accept that people with mental illnesses HAVE been treated unfairly by PIP rules - but the prospect of a review doesn't exactly fill me with joy, I have to say!!!

I think it is more to do with those who have mental health problems and i think if everyone has to be checked it would take a long while to get round to those of us with ra darling.xxxxx

Yeah, you may be right, all I saw was "everyone". And as I have both physical and mental conditions, well......! Either way it'll prob apply to me. Hey ho!

Will try to buy a paper today aand hopefully get more details. Tho of course it was just an announcement, may take a while for clarity, as they say!

Maybe NRAS helpline will have info?

Anyway, what will be will be, eh?

Thanks for replying Sylvi,

Surely those of us that are not claiming for mental health and are already receiving full amount on physical grounds don't need to be reassessed - what would be the point?

Yes I kind of agree with you, does seem a bit weird, anyway, we will wait and see. Bet the DWP aren't exactly overjoyed though.

Totally agree, but according to current reports by the media every person on PIP will have to be reassessed costing some £3+ billion. Whether or not this materialises remains to be seen. If it does happen then perhaps they will cut right back on face to face assessments for the physically disabled who, like myself, have been recently reassessed. Knowing the bunch of cronies running this country however, whatever they decide to do they'll probably make a mess of it just as they are doing with the NHS and other public services in this country.

Rant over.

Peace people V:-)

I’ve made big changes in my work due to fatigue and discomfort so rely on this money to survive. I’ve already made big changes to my social life too.

From what I can remember they said those who lost PIP and have mental problems, will be rechecked. As they said they didn't need PIP.

I have bipolar illness alongside PsA. I lost out big time on PiP. On Dla my mental health condition was well catered for. I was completely hammered by Pip. Never been so humiliated in my entire life. I didn't have the energy to fight it.

PSA itself causes mental health issues...double whammy! The way folks with severe and enduring mental illness are treated is archaic and monstrous.

Well I truly hope Nettac, that YOU are one of those who will now (or eventually?!) get what you should've had all along. I so sympathise, as you say, each illness affects the other one, and so often we just don't have the strength to fight, do we? Take care. X

Thanks. It was particularly upsetting because I was worse than I'd ever been. The report I got back made me feel sick. So full of inconsistencies and inaccuracies.

Everyone is getting reassessed but not face to face. It will be paper based reviews. Mammoth task

Thanks for confirming that - it will be a challenge to say the least. For them, as well as us! 😵

As I'm North of the Border, I think Benefits are going to be 'devolved' to be the responsibility of Edinburgh parliament, soon.....yet more complications. Anyway, who knows when or even if, the whole thing will ever happen.

Hiya Sheena. Just read this by the BBC's disability news correspondent

"This judgement won't affect people with physical disabilities, but the DWP will be going through everyone currently in receipt of PIP to narrow the 1.6 million claims down to approximately 220,000 people it thinks will be affected."

This is a concern from the point of view of those who not only have RD but also, like Nettac , also have bipolar or other mental health problems, that the DWP will narrow it down to those it thinks will be affected. I just hope it's a fine toothed comb they use.

Thanks nmh - by this time of day, I struggle to get my head around complex stuff, (brain fog?) so will re-read what you quoted in the morning!

But it's just wait-and-see time, really.
