Hi Vonnie

Having had Shingles myself last year he needs to get to Gp. If he's got it the sooner he gets on meds the better. If you Google NHS direct there's an excellent section on Shingles and it will tell you all you need to know better than I can.

Thanks Paul . I’m worried for him but at the same time I’m worried for myself with been on biosimilar drugs , will be double hard for me if I have to stop taking my benepali if I catch it.

I have had shingles 5 times in the last 5 years I am 70 now but I still can't have the injection til after I'm 71 in April which is mad, as long as u get the zoclovar anti viral tabs within 72 hours of first spot it's less severe

Please tell him to see the GP as soon as possible. He can have treatment now for shingles but it doesn't work if you leave it too long. My Mum did that and she was in excruciating agony for months and pain for 7 years afterwards.

Shove him out the door in the direction of the Surgery. If he's seen early enough & is diagnosed he can have the Zostavax vaccine or Valtrex which should, if it is shingles, mean he may have a milder case & may not last as long.

The implications for you are greater, it is for anyone with immune system problems. If not bothered for himself he should really think of you. Why is it he won't go til Monday has he said?

Because he is a idiot basically he is home soon he is getting told . Can’t deal with his stupidness .

I’ve been at work and he had to go somewhere but he complained of pain on is chest on Tuesday plus as been generally feeling unwell headaches flu like symptoms and now he told me he as a rash just on one part of is chest near is man boob. I presume it shingles will know more when he gets home.

And shove yourself out the door too...better to go to GP and get a prophylactic dose of the vaccine yourself as being immune compromised and with close contact to infected person should qualify you for it. Luckily shingle she is less contagious than chicken pox, but even so.....

Thanks hel I will do I didn’t realise that was the case I just don’t want to get it and then be of my own treatment .

You are right He really is a fool.

He should go to the doctor soonest to get the anti virals.....they mean his discomfort will, last less time.

I took them within 24 hrs & it was all over in 3 weeks...otherwise it could be months.i had chicken pox as a child but still got shingles.....so move into the spare room until Docsays he's not infectious....maybe that will motivate him to be sensible?

Men!!!

After my 5th bout in 5 years but still don't qualify for vaccination til I'm 71 next year u only get shingles if u have had chicken pox it lies dormant in the nerve endings and stress and low immune system brings on an attack I have 5 months to go til injection.

AgedCrone profile image

Yes there is some daft rule you can only have the shingles vaccine if you were born in a certain year. That might be fine if you don't have it...but they won't budge even after you have it.I was told I could have it Privately for £200.

The sooner common sense takes over in the NHS,the better!

Well he as just arrived home it looks like measles to me I know there is a outbreak in Liverpool it’s raging , do I need to be concerned 😟

In my case and quite commonly I believe shingles is on one side or the other.

Got no experience of measles but given you're on biologics you've got an increased risk of contracting infections so....safety first Vonnie!

Yes ...well he does..measles is very serious in adults..can even cause blindness!

Your partner must get a diagnosis and be treated. This is high on the alerts with this medication and you Must seek advice as to whether you need anti virals yourself. He is coming to the infectious stage if it is shingles.

You can't catch shingles. Once you have had chicken pox it's dormant in the system. Stress and being run down triggers is. There is great information on NHS choices website about it. One of my colleagues at work had it and it was not an issue for me, I'm on humira. It is only a problem if someone who hasn't had chicken pox touches the weeping sores. I work with pregnant ladies and babies and she was allowed to be at work, guidance from GP. Its a horrible thing to have hope he feels better soon.

My son (21) recently spent 5 days in isolation in hospital with measles - it affected his eyes too which was scary but luckily the damage doesn't appear to be permanent. He was SO ill and had to take three weeks off work and still feels he hasn't fully recovered..

Unwittingly he was a danger to all pregnant women he might have encountered whilst he was infectious (which was before he had obvious symptoms) - the same goes for your partner if he has either measles OR shingles.

Measles is a notifiable disease, meaning the hospital has to inform the local health authority who will then be in touch about where he's been recently etc so that people who may have been exposed to the virus can be notified. These reports are also centralised so the government can track outbreaks of the virus.

Tell him it's not about him wanting to tough it out - he needs to man up and think of the danger he could be putting other people in.

My husband had shingles last year and had them really bad in his head and eyes that caused concern we had to go every other day to hospital for treatment to his eye.Thankfully his eyes are fine now but he still has some nerve damage.I am on biologic and methetrexate and the doctor told me I would be fine he assured me I couldn't catch it and proceeded to rub his hands through my husbands head to reassure me.My husband is not a stressful person but he has had prostrate cancer and has Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy so he was probably very run down.So for anyone who thinks they may have shingles the sooner they see there doctor and get diagnosed the better for less pain.

I phoned my surgery when my grand daughers took chicken pox initially they said we don't give anything but when I said low immunity on methotrexate they changed their mind to 1 weeks course of antivirals - at least I didn't get shingles that time.

Was stressed as mum and hubby got ill and I took a rash....you guessed shingles. Phoned Dr straight away and got antivirals made things less awful and disease went much quicker so really the meds are vital! ((hugs)) M x
