Hi, just signed up I’m 68 and had intermittent depression since I was 20. It gets harder to control it as it controls me, I try to manage on minimal medication as I take tablets for other things .Ive now got a lower back problem continual aches feeling very sore that started from a painful coccyx and taking Co codimal & afraid of getting to reliant on them, this in turn brings on depression through worrying, I can’t walk for long and can’t get comfortable sitting. Is there anyone who has the same problems I’d love to connect and exchange views.

Coccyx and lower back pain treatment & O Arthritis
I have had back problems and in August i had surgery on it and it has helped with the pain no end. Try not to worry as much as it will only make you worse than you really are darling. Your a warrior and stronger than you think. Hugs.xxx
Hi Tatabrain - I'm sorry you are feeling poorly, and depression doesn't help for sure. What has your doctor said about all of this. I don't have the same kind of back problem but just wanted to let you know you are not alone..
Thank you for your reply, my doctor says nothing can be done only take painkillers but as I’m on medication for other problems I try to resist taking too many. It’s very difficult at my age your body changes aches n pains kick in and when you’re used to being active it’s so frustrating. Sorry I know there are many people worse off than me but when depression sets in you can’t see beyond yourself.
There that’s my moan for today! I’m off for a cup of tea. I will conquer these demons again and it’s good to put things in writing.
It may seem like I am being tough on you when you are feeling down and depressed. But any sort of exercise would help the depression. If you are in the UK you can ask to be referred for exercise on prescription where you are assessed and the exercise is tailored for you. If you can walk look for Walking for Health groups as the gentle walking they do may be within your capabilities and the social aspect helps the anxiety and depression.
Thank you for your reply, I have been doing Tai Chi weekly for the last seven years, it helps but my movement is limited after a fall resulting in a broken neck in 2009. I can walk n do most things within boundaries and try to keep busy but sometimes I get so tired it frustrates me. I just want to have less pain.
I have coccyx pain at the moment I'm only 42 and have MCTD, Sjögren's syndrome, RA . I'm lucky I see my consultant every 4 weeks at the mo when I have my infusion , when I told her she sent me for an X-ray and will be organising an MRI when I next go for my infusion ( if pain hasn't improved)
She said if it was a fall then it can take weeks or months to heal itself ( I haven't had a fall so she wants to do tests)
Could be tissue inflammation , my coccyx is crumbling? No idea at the moment until tests are finished she said.
Only help in meantime is a special ring cushion or a memory foam cushion for coccyx damage , pain relief and told to try not to sit for long ( minimum sitting time) and lie on side in bed.
Sorry that's all I have at the moment it's embarrasing when your out and someone has to drag you up as you can't get up out of a chair. Don't think people realise unless they have had servere back pain , coccyx or joint swelling so bad you cannot bend the joints to do any movement even if you wanted too.
Thank the lord I'm on infusions now so my life has changed for the better. I remember the bad days though. Keep strong you will get through the other side and we are here to listen. 💐
