I have been told we need pneumonia jab every 5 yrs so last year I had my 2nd one. I have had 13yrs of Ra and take mtx. 25mg once a week. Ask your specialist to write to your Dr. Mine did. Really feel for youxx

Hi I had mine about 4/5 years ago and was told it was a one off, which I was glad about because it would have been ok with me, my arm ached like it had been punched lol.

Yeah well there is that. Originally I was told it was a one off. Then that it was every 10yrs and then now every 5 yrs. Because of the poor immune system caused by the drugs that suppress it for Ra it is necessary. Or so I was told. You can only do as your specialist tells you as they are the authority on RA.

Will have to speak to my Rheumatologist as I was also told it was a one off jab. Thanks for raising the issue!

Maybe there are different pneumococcal vaccines that have different protection times?

Well On my first jab I was told you just need one which does you for the rest of your life. Then everyone should have one every 10 yrs. Then told better having a repeat evrry 5 yrs. So if they do vary why say only one needed for life. Then well no now we know it is better to repeat every 10 yrs then research shows better every 5 yrs for low immune system. Which as a rheumatoid sufferer I have as people do have. As I say this is my experience as my specialist advises me. Each to their own I would imagine.
