There is an eye condition associated sometimes with RA. Suggest you see your optician to check it out. Let us know how you get on!

I had to come off methotrexate as I suffered many side effects. As your other responder says, there are other conditions which are associated with RA. I have just been diagnosed with Sjogrens syndrome which gives you dry itchy eyes and very dry mouth. Maybe you have a bit of this. Good luck! Dee

I have had problems with dry eyes. My specialist says the vision is sometimes blurred because of the dry eyes. I put drops in 4 times a day and whenever I wake in the night. I can wear my lenses again. I found the preservative in the drops were making it worse so stick to preservative free. it was an eye infection that caused the problem. I was told it was the RA.

Boots do drops in a dropper bottle or individual squeezy one use things which are better when out. the individual ones don't have preservative. The bottles are with or without ppreservative. I had to order the preservative free ones sometimes. Now have a prescription

Yes I'm having that problem at moment. Didn't realise it was part of ra or methotrexate

More likely to be the RD than a side effect. Dry eyes very common with RD!

I also have experienced dry, red eyes, a bit goopy in the morning. My eye doctor recommended Systane Ultra eye drops. I use them throughout the day and at bedtime. I would also suggest a compress of warm chamomile tea. If this doesn't help, you may need prescription drops. Feel better soon! Take care, Penny

Hi,thankyou Penny.I also peeling nails on my hands.I have bought some Nail Envy from the pharmacy. It does seem to be helping

That's interesting as I got weak nails years ago and just thought it was me?

Nail Envy is fabulous stuff. I used that on my nails as well as Bio Oil round the cuticles and revived my 'thyroid' nails that I didn't think would ever be normal again. They were so painful I didn't want to touch anything.

Dry eyes, yip, they are agony and they give you blurred vision. I use preservative free ones, HycoSan or another brand Theolose Duo, both great.

I've also got an eye bag that I can microwave for a few seconds then I lie down and put it over my eyes. I also like to squeeze a face cloth out in hot enough to bear water and hold it bier my eyes.

Good advice to go see your optician first though.

It sounds like Bletheritis . It sure about correct spelling. It is a condition which affects the mucus excreted by eye lids. See your Optician and they will refer you to Specialist. I use to wake up with my eyes sealed shut. Not fun but easily treated with cortisone drops. Ithe dryness can cause damage to cornea so please see doctor as soon as you can.

Hello Hidden

Ra and medication can cause dry eyes which can lead on to an inflamed and mildly infected eyelid. The dryness can cause the oil glands in the eyelids to be blocked.

This is called blepharitis which can give you blurry sticky and sore eyes? You can ask your gp or your rheumatologist or treatments? An optician would be able to advise you too?

My gp told me to put a few drops of baby shampoo into a small cup of boiled and cooled water and to wash my eyelashes with cotton buds.

I hope this helps?

Best wishes xx

I am beginning to wonder if I have Sjögren's syndrome. I have 3 of the main symptoms, sore itchy eyes, very dry mouth, especially at night and a persistent dry cough. I am on 17.5 ml Methotrexate for RA

I have developed 'dry eyes' and 'dry mouth syndrome'

I asked the optician about it and she gave me a bottle of Spray for my eyes 'fake tears'

Then I told my rheumatologist and he said that's very common.

I am getting cataract removed and my vision corrected this month. I have dry eye and dry mouth. The opthamologist put a temporary contact on my cornea to smooth the surface. It has helped the sticky feeling on my eyes. Good luck!
