Hi,

I'm going away for a week soon and wondered whether missing one weeks methotrexate would matter as it makes me feel lousy?

We can't give you medical advice,so all I can say is I do it every now and then and it doesn't seem to have made any difference to me.

I may have been known to do this from time to time 😊 Especially when my holiday destination involved some well known wine lands ....

I agree with HH, we cannot offer medical advise. However, since my mum passed three weeks ago I developed a terrible cough and have therefore been off Mtx for this period - feel exactly the same as when I take it and don't anticipate and significant issues when I restart next week.

Best of luck with things

Marie

Do you have a rheumatology nurse? If so, can you give them a quick ring? I have skipped doses on holiday without a problem, mainly because I didn't want to deal with the hassle of getting medical letter to take the needles on the plane. 😳

I could, but would rather not involve them if its not going to be a big deal. Still on tablets at the moment but going on injections soon.

I have to say I have done it once or twice and it doesn't seem to make any difference. I presume it builds up over time and takes a while to leave your system before the systems start.

This is true. MTX does build up. And in my case much more than a couple of weeks. I have had no problems skipping a week of injections.

I came off of MTX for about 3 weeks when my ALT result sky-rocketed. I noticed a difference in my joints after about 2 weeks. We all react differently - if you are happy to miss a dose and see what happens - go for it. Have a good week away!

I have been told that it takes about 2 months for mtx to completely run out of your system, which is why you have to stop it for that long if you are planning a pregnancy. I have skipped it once in a while when I need a break from its side effects. Should be okay as long as you don't make a habit of it :)

Methotrexate has a very long half-life (it stays in your body for years), so I haven't had problems when missing one dose.
