Gout and ra

Hi is it common to have gout and ra .I have ra but I think I've got gout as well as the pain is different and in my big toe

Well, given that gout is a form of arthritis it's not unheard of. The inflammation, pain & redness that accompanies it could be confused with RD though, although you say it feels different. Do you also have OA, by that I mean are you able to distinguish the differences in RD & OA pain? The only way to be sure if it is gout would be to see your GP who may want to either draw some fluid off & send the sample off to the lab to check for urate crystals, that is if it's feasible from the joint affected, or take a blood test. The test is to measure your uric acid level although this is best done several weeks following an attack as by then the uric acid levels should be stable. There's little point taking it now because during an attack the level of uric acid in the blood drops due to the body's response to remove the crystals.

So, you'll have gathered yes it is possible but to see your GP for confirmation.

All I no is it hurts foot swollen as well as ankle with a red rash

My best advice is to see your GP, something is causing it & it needs determining what.

Sometimes we just have to suck it up & see our GP's! I see mine tomorrow too.

What did your GP make of your foot sammysam1969 ?

You need to see GP - is your foot swollen? It could be cellulitis

I had the same and was synovitis

Heya sammy yes very common, I have both, the gout is in my ankles 😕
