RA, gout and colonoscopy prep.

just sharing that with two hours of drinking the acidic powder purge mix prior to colonoscopy my big tie joint:knuckle which is already rigid with RA became agonising to such an extent even the air hurt it. It took 4 days to subside and no other joints have flared so I suspect gout and possibly prompted by the acidic purge. So be aware.

Oh no, that sounds so painful. I hope you’re not suffering any longer. Take care☺️

Yes had that stuff. One night before and 1 day of colonoscopy. Only gagged with 2bd as it was thicker. No joint problems at all. Keep near a toilet 😀

That stuff is absolutely horrible. I'm sorry it also had an inflammatory on your poor toe. It's good to hear that inflammation has now subsided.

Ouch, I hope your toe is better now. Good luck with the Colonoscopy.

Thank you, they found nothing apart from mild diverticulitis. I’ve had scopy pokeys down, up and in and nothing found which is great. But I’m still unwell so not sure what next really. May pay for a full blood tests inc thyroid things to rule that out. In the meantime I’m enjoying fitting into old clothes as the 16 pounds has stayed off, I might even have to have new clothes 😃

GP can and really should do thyroid test as they issue the prescriptions to treat it. I have Hashimotos which is hypo thyroid and it’s easy for the GP to sort out. If it is then the good news is free prescriptions. If your outer third eyebrows are thin or missing , your skin is dry and it is often hard to swallow first thing it might well be Hypo but another thing to ask about is Pernicious Aenemia again its just worth asking about.

Thank you for that. Stills is AI and I have other AI conditions. Tests show high cholesterol, low BP and I have gastric issues and raised liver enzymes so you can see why I’m reading up about thyroid stuff. Over in the thyroid pages many struggle to get tested, diagnosed and properly treated. It’s a worry I admit. May I ask how you were diagnosed and how you are treated and feeling?

I was really tired and thought turning into a hibernating dormouse. So saw GP some 35 years ago who felt my neck, looked at my face, did a blood test and I’ve been taking Thyroxine ever since. Don’t read some of the angst, I’m sure for some it is difficult but your GP will do a blood test as it’s a simple thing they treat. It’s very common and Hashimotos is the AI name for hypo thyroid failure. It really is very common and so please ask to see your GP. There were a few other symptoms but it’s definitely not hard to treat. The med is cheap but some want more because it can help people loose weight as gaining weight is another symptom of thyroid issues. As is loosing it and being tearful when the disease starts when the antibodies fire up. Because the antibodies always win you then get the tiredness etc. I have in 35 years never had any issues as the dose of thyroxine is stabilised. But taking to much can damage the heart so GPs have to make sure the dose is correct. It’s T3. T4 and TSH that is tested.

I forgot people thought I smoked as my voice got husky. At least 30 a day, sadly it returned to normal and I’ve never smoked. lol x
