Hi someone has told me 8am for a face to face for pip is not on. I did wonder how i would do it, but don't know if to ask for a different time. Don't want to push my luck with them.

You can ask for a different time and date Once only.

Say that you cannot be ready at that time as it takes to long / need to allow time for painkillers to work / whatever your reason is

Hi. I changed mine because, not only was the time unreasonable, but also the distance to the venue. It was over 50 miles away from where I lived. In fact, my husband ringing to change it went in my favour. I got another appointment for the next day at a venue practically on my doorstep and it was for the afternoon. Give them a ring, but as someone has already said, you can only do it once.

It is only 30min from my house, so feel that is not to bad, just have to get up at silly o'clock . i really don't know what to do.

Thanks.

Your call at the end of the day really then

If it imposes on you too much then change it

If you feel that it's not that big of a deal, keep it

But you can only change the once, remember

If your assessment isn't imminent you can, though it could work in your favour if mornings aren't good for you but I do think it's an unreasonable time, particularly if you've to travel any distance. When I had mine over 2.5 years ago it was at 9am & in the nearest city but it meant we'd to to set off & be up over an hour earlier than we would otherwise be at a later time with it being morning rush hour. Also, 9am was the first appointment time, we were there first but whilst we were waiting others arrived for their assessments.

As you're entitled you're entitled to change appointment date & time once I would ring the DWP. Have your letter with your appointment details handy & request if you could have a later appointment time, this also shouldn't be any problem, particularly if you've to travel some distance. If you do you could also request a nearer location, another member here did that & they found her a nearer assessment centre. In actual fact it was in the next town to where I live so I could have attended the same one & would have requested there too if I'd known, it would have cut 1.5 hours off my travelling time (in rush hour) if they'd listed options like they did with Choose & Book.

I hope all goes well when you do have your assessment.

I accompanied a friend to an assessment, and had to phone to alter the initial time offered, it was not a problem at all, very straight forward, just called the number and asked for a later time.

Mine was at 8 and it did work in my favour I looked and felt rubbish!! At least they can see you at one of the lows of your day. I came home and went straight to bed. When asked if I had driven there I just said no as I would not have felt safe lol. Good Luck x

Please be aware giving you a very early time could be part of yhe assessment...

They may take the view "if you can attend that early you cant be that bad" type of thing.

My PiP appointment was 45miles from my home. I phoned up the day before to change it... lo and behold I was given a new appointment 3miles from my home.

Good luck

Oh gosh never thought of it like this, now even more worried, but thanks for letting me know. I really just want it over with, we do really need this money as my husband has MS. It helps with lots of things. xxxx

OK, they will ask loads of questions and all your replies should be based upon the very worst days...

The payments are split into two parts, daily living and mobility.

Extra points should be awarded for Daily Living if help is required for dressing: toilet: bathing.

To get the higher rate you should NOT be able to walk un-assisted for more than 20meters plus other factors.

Remember all your answers should be based upon tge very worst days... dont ne a martyr and suggest your coping.

Due to many factors I was awarded higher rate for both payments... higher rate mobility means free road tax once car is registered disabled and almost guarantees Blue Badge if you dont already have one.

Good luck

Thank you so much, its hard to think how your worst day is if your not having a bad day. I won't be that good as up at silly oclock to see them.I do have pain all the time, the more i stand or sit it gets painful. I really just want it over i am not a very confident person so will just tell the truth and see what happens. Thank you again for the help will let you know how it went. Big Hug. xxx

Hi Farjer21. I am due my papers again this month as only awarded PIP for 1year (after being told i had it for 3yrs but that was b4 i was diagnosed, so change circs triggered last nov f2f. To which i had a reply stating as i used my 2 walking sticks to stagger down the 20-50mtrs to the room (stopping due to the pain, but she didnt see me as was chatting to my hubby!!) I was deemed able to walk 20mtrs aided so was not awarded high mobility!! I made sure she was aware i was not always able to use my sticks due to the pain in my hands (& showed the splints i wear on my wrists/hands). Fuming isnt the word & i now have go through it all again as report also stated "i could get better"!!
