to be honest I dont remember, but if you were worried they might offer you something to relax you. The anesthetists are really sklled at ths = sorry keyoard s playng p
My mother in law had one, and they deadened the surface first. I think they even gave her something to relax her a little beforehand because she was scared.
The one I had was for a surgical procedure and it felt strange, but no pain as I recall.
Hi Rocky07
I've had quite a few epidurals over the years, and depending on the hospital, I find the routine changes. Some have given me a pre-med which makes me drowsy, but still aware of what's going on,but unless the needle hits a nerve (a rarity) you shouldn't feel anything, and then I've had others done where they just wheel you in,and they must give you a little local on the spot,as even though I'm awake,I didn't feel a thing. If you're that uncomfortable not knowing,I'd try ringing the ward/impatient dept to find out the usual procedure they use, either way,in my experience, the most discomfort I felt was the cold of the liquid as it was injected into my back..... I could see the gaps in my back turn black on the X-ray screen as they filled with liquid, and also the needle being moved around, which kept me fascinated and also my mind off of what was actually happening 😊
Good luck and hope it does the job x
