Bloomin back pain.............

Been downstairs again due to my back, well at least i know why it hurts this morning as went for a too far long walk and am paying for it today. The background to the pain. Yesterday morning i was at the drs for my back, well he has increased my lyrica to four a day in the hope it will help with the pain. Well i took two last night and they didn't work as by 1am i was down here drinking tea. i got a couple of hours. After the drs i did a bit of shopping and then i thought i would renew my bus pass, well that didn't go very well as i needed prove that i need a bus pass, mind you this is a renewal you would think they would already have the paperwork to know i won't get better, but no a jobsworth woulkn't renew it so away i came without a new buss pass. I came away feeling very dejected and home we came. After lunch we went to our son and his wifes home and Bob went and helped him finish digging his back garden. Well i got it into my head i would go for a walk behind their house as there is a naturewalk and lake behind them, thinking i wouldn't go far,but i got down the lane and saw a buzzard sitting on a post and i got snapping and that started me off. I carried on walking feeling fairly good about my walking. Well i got to the lake and took loads of photos of the wildlife on the lake. then i started back out of the park and down the road to my sons calling in the shop on the way. WEll by the time i got to the shop i could hardly walk and my breathing was laboured and the shop assitant who was serving asked me if i was alright and did i need a chair and she kept asking me if i was alright the whole time she was serving me. Well i got back to my sons and practically collapsed onto their sofa and my darling dil got me a cup of tea and i brought chocolate. So after that we came home and i sat down and didn't move until it was time to go up for a bath. I am glad i did it and it is something i don't want to repeat soon, but boy did i enjoy myself and i am proud i did it even if i am paying for it. So it is a rest day for me i think and the weather is against me as well as storm Doris is pounding my area.xxxxxxx

Many years ago, my gp put me on Lyrica, for severe ulcer pain, and when that didn't help, he gave me liquid morphine, which did help. I have had a curvature of the spine since childhod, osteoarthritis, and more recetly, increased backache 24/7, not helped by a fall, in town recently. Since Monday, I have been on liquid morphine as I can't walk, sit or stand, for very long, and is impacting on my daily life. I do hope you get relief and are pain-free.

Hi @sylvi

Along with my other ailments,I've had degenerative disc disease since the age of 28 - I've had three ops so far(an interbody fusion at L4/5,and then a revision 5 months later where they had to drill more bone off the nerve ending, replace one of the screws and redo the bone grafting part, and then a decompression surgery 18 months later, all in,3 ops within 3 years to the day!!) I've also had so many different types of injections over the years for pain relief, and they all work to an extent, but you have to work with them in order to achieve the best outcome. The one thing people tend to get confused with bad backs is that they think they need to stay inactive to 'rest up'.... in some cases this can be true, but 99% should be doing some type of exercise, even if it is just a stroll(she says 'just' as if it were easy for us😂) I know it feels great at the time, but boy does it kick you when you do eventually rest up afterwards - I find the best remedy is a lovely soak(so much easier now I have my bath lift😊) and then just pottering around the house the next day,at least that way I can get my body moving and preventing it from seizing up,but also that I'm not too far from my bed if things take a turn for the worse quickly, and I need to lie with my feet raised on my bolster cushion - the day after I find I can move much more freely,ok,so I may look like I've had an 'accident' in my pants, but I'm still moving all the same😝 Like the majority of us,just waiting for the warmer weather to get here so I can start taking more walks again,as at the minute,it takes longer to get dressed with all the supports, back brace included, than it does for the walk itself 😜Also,as my hands are generally so bad now that I can't use a stick of any sort anymore...not even the ergonomic ones.... although trying to explain that to someone who suggests going for a walk to 'get out of the house' can be a lesson in itself before you even begin 😩

I'm glad you took the opportunity when you had it,and great pic by the way, just a shame you haven't got the back pain under control enough to enjoy them at the minute - fingers crossed that gets sorted quickly for you.

Keep taking it day by day, grabbing each opportunity like you're doing, and before long you won't even remember your back pain.... you'll either be high as a kite on your meds so won't care,or you would've strengthened it enough by doing the walking that you're currently doing - we all know it gets worse before it gets better, and I've always found that true with my back.i also use either bio-freeze,or the little hotties you warm in the microwave to ease with the pain at night too.... it doesn't help massively, but I find it helps just enough to take the edge off for me to be able to get half comfy by the time my meds kick in.

Sending warm hugs, and hope you feel better soon

Blimey Nicki i can't complain compared to you darling, but i agree with you about gentle exercise. I was in a rehab place years ago with my back(so this is nothing new) And i was told to rest for 48hrs only then start moving gently. I know i am paying for the walk, but boy did i enjoy it darling,i never walk anywhere without my glitter stick so it is some support. I am thinking if the pain meds don't help this morning i will have to use a crutch as we are going out to lunch. I do try to keep active as much as i can with all that is wrong with me,i love being in my garden though it is not very big and i need hubbys help with it,he wil do any digging i need. got him a allotment with the intention of going down there and helping him, well that didn't happen, but he is happy.

Hugs darling.xxxxxx

Yep,two peas in a pod - my garden isn't very big either, especially since we cut it in half to make an enclosed side for my beautiful cats - I can sit in there with them instead of just looking at them in a cage out there, this way we all get the best of the situation. The other half of the garden is full of bird feeders(which the cats can watch through their shed window,as it has privacy film on the windows - the cats can watch the birds, but the birds can only see their own reflection, and it makes the garden look bigger too😊,plus I have potted plants/shrubs, and my cherry tree(can't wait for that to finally blossom again) but it keeps me happy pottering around for 20 minutes each day just sorting bird feeders out etc - my back never gave me any issues after the ops,as I always made sure I exercised regularly to keep it strengthened,it's only since this diagnosis, and not being able to exercise properly yet that it's started playing up,it's annoying that all my hard works gone to pot,but at the same time, there are plenty worse than me,so I just try and do what I can, when I can.

Enjoy your lunch today - I had a hectic day yesterday with lots of errands being done, and then puppy class last night,so I'm having a duvet day today, the rest can wait until tomorrow, and of course, cats love it as they get to lay on a very expensive sofa undisturbed for most of the day 😈😻

Enjoy x

DArling i wish i could have a duvet day as well as my back is crippling me,i have just take 2 tramadol and i even considered taking another one as well, but i thought better of it. I feel like crying at the moment

i feel that sore and the weather outside isn't helping either.xxxxx

Eurghhh,I never got on with tramadol - they were like the devils work with me. I keep mine under control with diazepam for the spasms(varying doses of 2mg,depending on how bad it is,and oxynorm. I definitely spent my fair share of being out in the weather yesterday.....NOTHING is moving me from this bed today😜

Wish you well, and stick a heat patch(belt) on for that extra comfort while out x
