Been at consultant with 25 yr old daughter for a check up. Sero negative ra but now got an antibody that shows up lupus. He said these could overlap and more blood taken. Any ideas what this all means.
Possibly lupus but was initially diagnosed with ra - NRAS
Possibly lupus but was initially diagnosed with ra
Lupus and RA were explained to me as cousins. A positive Lupus test is the same as a positive RA test. Sometimes seronegative RA can turn into seropositive RA. Sometimes a persons first blood test can show RF- at the begining of the disease. It can change to RF+ as the disease progresses.
That is exactly what I am going through too. What are your daughters symptoms besides not feeling right? Mine are extreme stiffness at times but now every evening, one or more joints get hot, swollen and searingly painful and by midday, there is nothing wrong. No meds yet as after 10 mths no diagnosis from Rheumy. Does your daughter get this?
As I understand it, sometimes autoimmune conditions overlap with people having symptoms and biological markers of more than one condition. The test results will help the consultant decide on the best course of treatment as some medications are suitable for one condition but not for others. Hope your daughter gets more information and treatment soon.
Autoimmune diseases can overlap, as indicated. That does not mean Lupus and RA are the same condition. Only that you can have both. I currently have five ; RA, Tenosinovitis, Bletharitis, Pericarditis, CAD and FM, OA, Osteoperosis....Sadly I am what my Rheumy calls Autoimmuny lol that is an actual word.
Sorry, wondering off track. I hope both you and your daughter find the right treatment. It can be managed. I am hoping my son does not become ill as well.
