Hi All
Just wondered if anyone has any experience of having had a yellow fever vaccination whilst being on leflunomide. I have been provided with conflicting information - the manufacturer says no whilst my consultant says yes.
Thank you xx

I might be wrong but I thought we couldn't have this ,yellow fever as it was a live vaccine. I would check with your Rheumatology team and or Gp.
I agree, I think it's a no no.
Thank you both. Beverley from NRAS came to my rescue a found me a loan from the British Society for Rheumatology which stated the yellow fever vaccine should not be given to anyone on leflunamide and my consultant conceded for me not to have it unless absolutely necessary.
Thank you Beverley (NRSA)
Hi, live Vaccine should not be taken by people with RA. I am one of the unfortunate ones , who took it without realising I was pre disposed to RA( maternal family has RA). It is because of this Vaccine that I now have ITP too, ( low platelets causing bleeding). Please don't take it.
Wow, I am sorry to hear this but thank you for the warning. Take care x

Hi Mistydawn, please go through these to have a better idea.
Wow Padram. Thank you so much for the links. Prior to reading these I was thinking of stopping the leflunomide and then having the vaccine prior to starting abatacept. Think I won't be having the vaccine now at all. Will just have to not travel to countries where yellow fever is prevalent. Thanks again x
Just a little add on to this discussion, I learnt this week that 1 x dose of yellow fever vaccine is now effective for life rather than 10 years
