Hi just been to rheumatology I currently take sulfa and leflunomide(Arava). Still getting bad flares so they are suggesting above biologics. I'm scared to be honest as it's says on google bad combination. I can't tolerate methotrexate. Is anyone on this suggested combination and it says higher risk of getting cancer. Sulfa on 6 tablets a day at the min makes me have terrible bad stomach and doesn't stay in me. Lost a stone in weight too. Regards x
Adalimumab and leflunomide: Hi just been to... - NRAS
Adalimumab and leflunomide
Have a look at the NRAS website for information on treatments. It might put the various side effects into proportion.
Also if you put the name of the drug you want information about, then put it in the search box and previous posts will appear.
I'm currently on etanercept (Enbrel), leflunomide and methotrexate. Hoping to go off leflunomide next month. As far as I know all of the biologics increase the risk of lymphoma and perhaps some other cancers. From what I've read the risk is greatest for teenage males taking one of the biologics for something like ulcerative colitis. But there's no denying that the risk is increased at least a bit for everyone taking them. So as with most medicines it's a decision about potential improvement in quality of life versus risk of side effects. Good luck making your decision.
I went on to leflunomde but had to quit because of side effects. Now trying Truxima. RA team are just rolling the dice to find something that works.
Ask your rheumatologist....not Google.....drug combinations depend on many things.
He has studied for years & knows your clinical details......Google doesn’t!
