Am in agony from my back........

I have been up half the night with my back. Am in agony this morning,my discs have moved and the pain is going down my right leg and i have to say it hurts like hell. |Even my hands are sore this morning as well. This current back problem has been going on for nearly two weeks. I do have worn joints and discs in the 5th and 6th lumbar vertabrae so it is little rest and light movement and activity.Went to rehab several years ago after my discs moved causing me a lot of trouble and i learnt a lot. One you must rest for only 48hrs in bed, then gentle exercises. My hands are stiff this morning and i think that means rain is on its way and i also feel grumpy and i am tired as well. I will keep going slowly today . AT the moment i have the heat on my back and i am sitting here waiting for my tablets to work and then i will get dressed and start my day. So godd morning and hugs to you all.xxxxx

Hi Sylvi, I hope your day improves slowly. I'm going through another set of RA related issues, it is the condition that keeps on giving and challenging. I agree it's definitely best to rest a bit and move a bit. Not always easy and often painful but we have to keep going. Thinking of you and hope the tablets have worked now

Michele it is not fair is it when we suffer so much, why can't the murderers take all our problems freeing us to carry on normally.xxxx

Yeah wouldn't it be great if ISIS were suddenly all taken down with RA! They might feel a lot less like doing what they do.

I sometimes think only those who can cope with pain are dealt this hand but I so wish someone else could have it for a while sometimes! If it's any consolation my h has had his op deferred at the 11th hour & in absolute agony, steroids not touching the pain but at least he sees his Cardio surgeon again in a fortnight.

We just keep on keeping on don't we? Could you contact the rehab team & see if they could see you or alternatively ask if your GP could refer you back to them? Gentle hugs & I hope it's at least eases a little keep it warm & better still once your meds kick in. ((x))

They are all a waste of time methinks. I am going to get an appt tomorrow to see my dr not that i hold out much hope. I am seeing my rheummy nurse next month and as nice as she is she doesn't have a clue unless it shows in the bloods she doesn't want to know.xxxx

Hello hope you do not mind me jumping onto your reply I find that both my Rheumy nurse and consultant work under the impression that if the bloods are ok then so should everything else be!! Not in my case I have had the odd high ESR but over the last 12 months bloods have been fine but my aches and pains have got worse!! I now have to deal with a new pain in my ribs and chest which feels like someone has been sitting on me..... Bad thumbs trips to Occy health and waking up everymorning as though I have been steam rolled... but my bloods are ok so should I??? sorry about the moan but its good to get it off your chest! take care everyone xxx

Hi there. So sorry you have to put up with degenerating discs as well as RA. I have that too, so I know something of what it is like. My very good back specialist has sent me for a steroid injection in the lower spine which had improved thingssomewhat, but I have to be on very strong pain killers as well for the foreseeable future. He is also sending me for facet joint injections - being extra helpful about dealing with my pain as he knows it will be permanent.

One other thing which has helped is private physio - some ultrasound treatment and some time under the electromagnetic heat machine. I can't tolerate any sport of exercises or even massage but these treatments are very effective after only one or two sessions. They seem to allow the muscles around the spine to relax where they had become knotted up and that helps the pain. Unfortunately not available on NHS.

Hope this helps and that you find the right person to treat you or get refered to the right person. Sometimes I think we get fobbed off if the person we see is not an expert in that particular area. They should refer us straight away but sometimes some metaphorical jumping up and down is required.

Blessings

I will have to have needles(can't remember for the life of what it is called) in my back as it helped my neck when i had them. I used to see a chiropractor when hubby was at work as he was in a health group and it helped enormously, but since he has retired we can't afford it now. My gp is very good and he said we will treat each symptom one at a time. He said lets get this back sorted out first. I hope he does as i need to keep moving.xxxc

Sounds like you have a good GP who will do his best for you. The only thing I would say is that GPs can't be expected to keep abreast of all the new treatments that are available and perhaps a referral to a specialist might help more in the long run and an MRI scan will show exactly what is happening. But both of those things mean waiting so there is a strong argument for asking for injections now. I hope so much that you have relief for your pain very soon. :-)
